Great Poets of Telangana Bammer Potana

Pothana was born at Bammera village, Palakurthy Mandal, Warangal district in Telangana state currently Jangoan District in Telangana state. His father was Kesanna and his mother Lakkamma. Pothana is a farmer by occupation.

Pothana is known for his best work in translation of Bhagavatava Purna from Sanskrit to Telugu.

Potana is considered as Sahaja Kavi( Natural Poet), at an early age Bhogini Dhandakam’s poem was written by him in praise of king Sri Singa Bhoopala.

Bhogini Dandakam is the earliest and first poem by available in Telugu by Potana. 

Virabhadhra Vijayamu is about adventures of Lord Virabhadhra, son of Lord Shiva which contains the destruction of a yagna performed in absence of Lord Shiva by Daksha Prajapathi.

Great Poets of Telangana Kaloji Narayana Rao 

Raghuveer Narayana Laxmikanth Srinivasa Ram Raja Kaloji (9 September 1914 – 13 November 2002), popularly known as Kaloji Narayana Rao or Kaloji or Kalanna, was an Indian poet, freedom fighter, anti-fascist and political activist of Telangana who was participated and involved in many movements like Arya Samaj movement, Andhra maha sabha and also become part of Satyagraha etc.

He was popularly known as  Praja Kavi, meaning the “People’s Poet” who wrote poetry in Telugu, Urdu, Hindi and Marathi Languages and was awarded doctorate award by kakatiya University in 1992.

kaloji was awarded Padma vibhushan by the government of India, for his services in Literacy in 1992

Great Poets of Telangana Dr C. Narayana Reddy

Dr.C. Narayana Reddy was born on July  29, 1931, in Hanumeajipet, Karimanagar District and died on 12 June 2017

Dr.C. Narayana Reddy is an award-winning Indian Telugu poet and writer and even he is nominated to the Rajya Sabha in August 1997.

He received PhD from Osmania University in 1962 on “Modern Traditions of Telugu” and become a Professor in 1976.

He Married Sushela and had four daughters, with his wife’s name (Susheela) instituted an award to female writers annually.

Telangana kavulu Dr. Ande Sri

Ande Sri was born in 1961 in Rebarthi village near Jangaon in Warangal district, Telangana and his original name are Ande Ellaiah who grew up as an orphan and did not have a proper education.

Ande Sri is also known as Praja Kavi/Prakruthi Kavi was a Famous Indian Poet and Lyricist.

He composed songs mainly on the nature of Telangana and many of his songs are included in movies.

One of such song  “Maayamai Pothundamma Manishanavadu”  for the film Erra Samudram has inspired the Andhra Pradesh Universities syllabus committee to include it in the Telugu second year graduation textbooks for the next academic year starting in 2009. This is the third song to feature in the Telugu syllabus after Maa Telugu Thalliki and Telugu Jathi Manadi in the 77 years of Telugu cinema.

He was also honoured with Doctorate from Kakatiya University.

Ande Sri also received the Nandi award for the Telugu film Ganga in the best lyrics category for the song  “vellipothunnava”.

Telangana kavulu Kancherla Gopanna

Kancherla Gopanna (Goparaju) renowned as “Bhakta Ramadasu”, was born in the year 1620 and died in 1680. He was born to an affluent Telugu Niyogi Brahmin family to Linganna Mantri and Kamamba in Nelakondapalli village of Khammam dist Taluk Division of  Telangana

He was popularly known as Bhakta Ramadasu or Bhadrachala Ramadasu in 17th-century Indian devotee of Rama and renowned for constructing a famous temple for Rama at Bhadrachalam.

He also wrote Dasarathi Shatakamu with a ‘Maku Tamu’ ‘Daasarathee Karunaa payonidhee’  a collection of nearly 108 poems dedicated to the son of Dasaratha Lord Rama and his devotional lyrics towards Rama is known as RamaDaasu Keertanalu.
