With the introduction of Title Update 2 on June 30th, Lagiacrus has returned to the series in Monster Hunter Wilds. However, unlike Seregios, unlocking Lagiacrus requires extra steps. Here’s how to unlock the quest and how to battle and defeat the monster.

How to Unlock Lagiacrus
To unlock Lagiacrus, players must:
- Reach Hunter Rank 31 or higher.
- Complete the Main Mission “A World Turned Upside Down.”
- Complete the Side Mission “Forest Doshaguma.”
After meeting these requirements, speak to Erik in the Scarlet Forest to unlock Extra Mission 2: Trembling Blue Currents. In this mission, you will follow Rathalos tracks through the Scarlet Forest and face Lagiacrus. This hunt requires you to capture Lagiacrus instead of slaying it.

How to Complete the Forest Doshaguma Side Quest
The Forest Doshaguma Side Quest is necessary for unlocking Lagiacrus. To complete it:
- Finish Wyvern Spark and Rose Thorns.
- Speak to Erik in the Scarlet Forest. He will ask you to capture a Doshaguma.
Unlike other quests, this side mission does not appear as a quest from Alma. Players must locate and capture a Doshaguma in the forest on their own.
If there is no Doshaguma on the map, use the Environment Overview → Forecast to check for its spawn. If there’s no Doshaguma forecast, wait and rest until one appears. Once a Doshaguma spawns, begin a field survey and capture it.
If the Lagiacrus quest does not appear after completing Forest Doshaguma, you might need to reset the Scarlet Forest by resting in your tent or leaving and returning. Once you come back, Erik should have the quest available.
If you have already met all the requirements, Alma will mention that Erik wants to talk in the Scarlet Forest as soon as you log in.
How to Beat Lagiacrus
After the initial High-Rank capture quest, Lagiacrus can appear randomly in the Scarlet Forest in either a regular or Tempered form. Upon discovering it in the open world, you can hunt it immediately or save it as an Investigation to pursue later.

Lagiacrus’ Attacks and Behavior
Lagiacrus retains attacks familiar from previous games:
- Quick linear chomping attacks.
- Tail swipes.
- Small lightning projectiles.
- A hip-check that uses Lagiacrus’ linear body type.
Weapons with perfect guards, evades, or parries can be effective against these attacks. Offset attacks are also helpful for gaining an advantage before larger moves appear.
When enraged, Lagiacrus uses its lightning attacks more often. Two key moves include:
- Slithering Attack: Lagiacrus propels forward in a straight line, knocking down anything in its path. How enraged it is will determine how many times it repeats this attack in succession. Sometimes, the sequence ends with a smaller eruption attack dealing damage in a radius.
- Lightning Eruption Attacks: The deadliest moves in its arsenal:
- A smaller eruption damaging targets close to Lagiacrus.
- A larger attack releasing three waves of electricity landing in scattered locations at greater range.
Lagiacrus tends to move frequently during battle but slows down before using an eruption attack, curling into itself before releasing energy. After the larger eruption attack, Lagiacrus has a temporary wound on its back. You can use a Focus Strike on this wound to deal more damage and possibly open a larger damage window.
How to Counter Lagiacrus
To counter the slithering attack:
- Dive out of the way or use a perfect dodge like those available with Dual Blades or Bow.
- Perfect guard attacks are useful if Lagiacrus only performs the slithering attack once, but are risky if it repeats the move.
- Setting traps in Lagiacrus’ path can stop its momentum and create an opening for attacks.
To counter the eruption attacks:
- Keep a safe distance and wait for the attack to end.
- Perfect guarding can block initial damage but may lock you into a staggered guard state, reducing stamina and allowing follow-up lightning strikes to still hit.
- The safest strategy is to wait for the eruption sequence to finish, then attack during Lagiacrus’ recovery window.
Underwater
Similar to its appearance in Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, Lagiacrus has an underwater combat sequence in Monster Hunter Wilds. In water, all weapon attributes are removed, and you must focus on dodging attacks and interacting with the environment to damage Lagiacrus.

While underwater, you have a dodge motion and the ability to swim up or down. Holding the left trigger on Xbox or L2 on PlayStation allows you to swim freely at different altitudes. This makes it easier to keep Lagiacrus in sight and move quickly.
There are two rock structures underwater that can be used:
- The first can be brought down immediately upon entering the water if you’re quick enough, leaving Lagiacrus stunned.
- The second is found behind your entry point in the corner.
Players can use the grapple hook to attach to Lagiacrus, similar to grappling onto a wound. From there, you can perform light attacks with your knife or a longer weapon attack that deals more damage. Wounds can still be inflicted underwater, allowing chances to stun Lagiacrus. After its projectile attack, Lagiacrus may also create a temporary wound underwater, just like on land.
If you inflict enough damage underwater, the player who delivers the final blow triggers an animated sequence. If performed on the left-hand side of the underwater area, Lagiacrus will be sent into a spikey structure for significant damage and will surface in a stunned state. If the sequence occurs elsewhere, it simply does damage and forces Lagiacrus back to the surface.
If you fail to deal enough damage underwater, Lagiacrus will perform an enormous supernova attack that can even damage players outside the water. In that case, put as much distance between yourself and Lagiacrus as possible, even diving deeper into the water. Avoid resurfacing until the attack ends.
Weapons and Armour
Defeating Lagiacrus unlocks new weapons and armour made from its materials. Players interested in expanding their equipment should complete this hunt.
Lagiacrus’ return is an exciting challenge for those who have hunted it before and for newcomers experiencing this monster for the first time. With the right preparation and tactics, you’ll be ready to battle Lagiacrus both on land and underwater in Monster Hunter Wilds- Play Now.
