Dead by Daylight Bloodpoints Nerf: Devs Explain Twisted Masquerade Changes

Behaviour Interactive, the studio behind Dead by Daylight, has confirmed they are offering less Bloodpoints during the Twisted Masquerade event, in response to complaints from players who feel the grind has become more difficult.

This year’s celebration is particularly significant as it marks the final Twisted Masquerade event in the game’s current anniversary cycle.

Players Notice Fewer Bloodpoints

Dead by Daylight’s Twisted Masquerade is an annual anniversary event known for offering extra rewards, including special “anniversary cakes.” These cakes are special offerings that give players extra Bloodpoints. Players use these points to progress characters and unlock new perks.

However, since the release of update 9.0.2, many players began noticing they were receiving fewer cakes than in past years. Previously, players could expect to see two or even three cakes appearing randomly in a single Bloodweb level. Now, some report seeing only one per web, with the cakes appearing at a fixed rate rather than randomly.

One player shared, “In previous years it’s been completely random, most webs would have at least two cakes, sometimes even three. The randomness and higher drop rate was so much better.”

Frustrated players took to Reddit, accusing Behaviour of quietly reducing the rewards. Comments like “stop ruining fun” and “making the grind for BP even more painful” reflect the growing discontent.

Devs Confirm Nerf is “As Intended”

Responding to these complaints, an official Dead by Daylight developer account on Reddit explained the change was deliberate.

They said the only earlier issue was cakes not appearing on level 50 Bloodwebs or Prestige 100 characters, which is now fixed. They stated:

“We already addressed the cake issue at level 50 bloodwebs/P100 characters. This was the only area where the cakes were not appearing as intended.”

Further confirmed:

“We are aware that the cakes are appearing less than previous years; the cakes are appearing as intended.”

This shows Behaviour Interactive has intentionally lowered the drop rate for anniversary cakes. This means fewer Bloodpoints for players.

Community Backlash Grows

News that the change was intentional triggered strong reactions. One developer’s Reddit comment explaining the situation received over 400 downvotes, with many replies criticizing the decision. One user wrote, “It’s a freaking anniversary, why would they think it’s a good idea to be LESS celebratory?”

Some players have tried workarounds. They use the “bulk option” in the Bloodweb to get more cakes per prestige level than by picking nodes manually. One player explained, “I’m getting like 15-20 more cakes each prestige level using the bulk option than if I do the manual or center node method.” However, there’s no official way to restore the old drop rates.

No Signs of Reversing Bloodpoint Nerf

Despite the backlash, Behaviour has not announced any plans to increase the availability of cakes during the event. This leaves some fans disappointed, especially as the daily login rewards for this year’s Twisted Masquerade event have also fallen short of previous milestones. For example, players noted that total daily logins haven’t even reached one million Bloodpoints, which was a common expectation in past events.

Interestingly, the change to cake drop rates was not mentioned in recent discussions where Behaviour shared plans for upcoming chapters and features, catching many players off guard.

Yet, even amid controversy, Dead by Daylight continues to break player records, driven in part by its frequent collaborations with popular franchises like Stranger Things, Silent Hill, Alien, and Five Nights at Freddy’s. Many players seem able to enjoy other aspects of the game while remaining frustrated with this specific change.

Will Devs Reconsider the Nerf?

While players are hoping for reconsideration, all indications suggest Behaviour Interactive intends to keep the current lower drop rates for anniversary cakes. The developer’s decision shows that they want to keep the grind for Bloodpoints more challenging.

Only time will tell whether the frustration over reduced Bloodpoints will affect Dead by Daylight’s thriving player base in the long term.
