Release Date and Platforms

The Walking Dead Chapter officially launches on July 29, 2025, across all platforms including Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and mobile devices. PC players can dive in early via the Public Test Build (PTB), though Michonne is currently not selectable for Trials due to technical issues (planned for resolution in update 9.1.0). Her perks remain available for testing, and she’s visible in both the Store and lobby.

New Survivors: Rick Grimes and Michonne

The new Chapter introduces two fully-voiced Survivors:

  • Rick Grimes (played by Andrew Lincoln)
  • Michonne (played by Danai Gurira)

Both characters can be purchased individually for 500 Auric Cells (approximately $5).

While Daryl Dixon also joins the crossover, he’s not a standalone Survivor. Instead, he’s available as a Legendary Outfit for Rick Grimes, costing 1,485 Auric Cells (around $15). The Legendary Outfit transforms Rick into Daryl Dixon, featuring unique visuals and voice lines, effectively letting you play as Daryl in-game despite him not being a standalone Survivor.

Both Survivors are fully voiced and come with additional cosmetic options.

No New Killer

Importantly, this Chapter does not introduce a new Killer—it’s entirely focused on new Survivors and cosmetics for fans of The Walking Dead. Horror fans seeking other scares might enjoy exploring the Best Horror Games list for more thrills beyond the Fog.

Rick Grimes: Perks Breakdown

Rick Grimes arrives armed with 3 unique perks:

Apocalyptic Ingenuity

  • After unlocking or rummaging through two Chests, you can activate an ability to construct a Fragile Pallet at the spot of a destroyed one.
  • You must press Ability Button 1 for 8 seconds while standing beside a broken pallet.
  • He also sees the auras of broken pallets within a 32-meter radius to help choose where to rebuild defenses.
  • Fragile Pallets break upon being dropped but can buy precious seconds in chases.

This perk introduces environmental manipulation on a level never before seen in Dead by Daylight, giving Survivors new options to extend loops and create safe zones where none existed.

Come and Get Me!

  • After you unhook a Survivor, you can crouch idle and activate this perk.
  • It silences injured or dying Survivors within a 24-meter radius, suppressing their scratch marks and pools of blood for 15 seconds.
  • In exchange, you scream, and the Killer briefly sees your aura for 5 seconds.

It’s perfect for high-risk, high-reward plays, allowing Rick to draw the Killer’s attention away while shielding others—ideal for clutch escapes or coordinated rescues.

Teamwork: Toughen Up

  • When another Survivor within 24 meters stuns or blinds the Killer while you’re injured, your grunts of pain, scratch marks, and pools of blood are completely suppressed for 30 seconds.

An excellent perk for escaping hot pursuit or repositioning safely after a teammate helps out. Rick’s Teamwork: Toughen Up suppresses your injured noises when teammates intervene, while Michonne’s Teamwork: Throw Down grants Endurance and aura reading to nearby injured Survivors when she stuns the Killer. Keeping their names distinct avoids confusion.

Michonne: Perks Breakdown

A warrior at heart, Michonne’s perks emphasize resilience and counterplay under pressure:

Conviction

  • After healing one Survivor, you gain an ability to instantly recover from the Dying State once you’ve achieved at least 25% recovery progress.
  • You must press Ability Button 2 while downed to activate this instant recovery.
  • Upon using it, you become Broken and will fall again after 30 seconds if not healed.

This perk lets Michonne flip the script in critical moments—a risky but powerful tool for survival, especially for aggressive players.

Last Stand

  • After spending 60 seconds in the Killer’s Terror Radius without being in a chase, your next Fast Vault stuns the Killer for 3 seconds if they’re within 2.5 meters.
  • Perk disables for the rest of the trial afterward.

It serves as a surprise counterattack, punishing Killers for camping or proxy patrolling and providing a dramatic escape window.

Teamwork: Throw Down

  • When you pallet-stun or blind the Killer, all injured Survivors within 24 meters gain Endurance and see the Killer’s aura for 10 seconds.

It’s a major boost to team survivability, allowing injured allies to tank a hit and reposition safely. This perk combines beautifully with Rick’s Toughen Up for coordinated plays.

Synergy and Strategy

Rick and Michonne are tailored for aggressive, high-coordination gameplay. Their perks open avenues for new team tactics:

  • Rick’s Come and Get Me can be paired with Michonne’s Conviction, creating daring rescue chains.
  • Teamwork: Toughen Up and Teamwork: Throw Down together offer enormous utility for squads prioritizing safe rescues and extended chases.
  • Apocalyptic Ingenuity potentially shifts map dynamics, granting Survivors tools to recreate defensive structures mid-match.

Players who prefer solo stealth might struggle with these high-profile perks, but coordinated teams will find huge value in the chaos Rick and Michonne can orchestrate.

Pricing Details

  • Rick Grimes or Michonne: 500 Auric Cells (~$5 each)
