During seasonal events like the Winter Warmth Star Path, Disney Dreamlight Valley often asks players to complete duties using riddle-style hints rather than clear item names. One such task challenges you to harvest a key chocolate ingredient, which can be confusing if you’re unsure what the game is pointing you toward. Fortunately, the solution is simple once you know what to look for.

What the “Key Chocolate Ingredient”
In Disney Dreamlight Valley, the key chocolate ingredient is Cocoa Beans. These are a foraged ingredient used in multiple dessert recipes and event-related cooking tasks.
Cocoa Beans are not grown from seeds like vegetables. Instead, they come from Cacao Trees, which are special foraging plants found in specific biomes.
Where to Find Cocoa Beans in Disney Dreamlight Valley
Cocoa Beans grow exclusively on Cacao Trees. In a fresh or lightly modified valley layout, these trees are located in two biomes:
- Glade of Trust – 2 Cacao Trees
- Sunlit Plateau – 4 Cacao Trees
If you’ve used Furniture Mode to rearrange your valley, the trees may no longer be in their original locations. To track them down quickly:
- Open the Collection menu.
- Go to the Ingredients tab.
- Select Cocoa Beans.
- Check the biome information shown to see where your Cacao Trees are currently placed.
This method saves time if your valley layout has changed significantly.
How Harvesting Cocoa Beans Works
Each Cacao Tree provides:
- 3 Cocoa Beans per harvest
- 30-minute regrowth timer before more Cocoa Beans appear
Since there are six trees total, you can collect 18 Cocoa Beans in one round, which is more than enough for the Star Path requirement.
Important limitations to keep in mind:
- Cocoa Beans cannot be planted
- They are only obtained from Cacao Trees
- Moving the trees does not affect their yield or regrowth time
How to Complete the Key Chocolate Ingredient Star Path Duty
To finish the “Harvest a key chocolate ingredient” duty, you need to collect 15 Cocoa Beans.

Because a full harvest gives you 18 Cocoa Beans, you can complete the task in a single pass without waiting for trees to regrow. Simply harvest all available Cacao Trees, and the duty will immediately register as complete.
Once finished, you’ll earn Star Path Tokens, which can be spent on seasonal rewards tied to the event .
Pro Tips to Get Extra Cocoa Beans
While bonus Cocoa Beans do not count toward the duty total, they are still useful for cooking and storage. To maximize your harvest:
- Ask a foraging-role villager to hang out with you before harvesting
- Equip foraging companions if available
These bonuses can drop extra Cocoa Beans, which are handy for dessert recipes and future event tasks.
Why You Should Keep Extra Cocoa Beans
Even after completing the duty, Cocoa Beans remain valuable. They’re used in:
- Dessert recipes
- Star Path cooking challenges
- General meal preparation for energy restoration
Since they’re time-gated by regrowth, keeping a small reserve can save you effort later. Play Now!
