How to Break Yellow Barriers in Saros

Yellow barriers appear early in Saros, but your melee attack does nothing against them. The game even tells you that your melee power is not strong enough, which hints at a future upgrade. You will unlock the ability to destroy them, but not until late in the game. Here is exactly what you need to do.

What Are Yellow Barriers in Saros?

Yellow barriers are force field walls and containers scattered across every biome in Carcosa. They block side paths, hidden rooms, and collectibles like audio logs and text logs.

From the start of the game, you can break red barriers with a standard melee strike (tap R1). Yellow barriers do not respond to that same attack. No matter how many times you hit them, they stay intact. You need a specific ability upgrade before you can interact with them at all.

How to Unlock the Blazing Strike Ability

The ability that breaks yellow barriers is called Blazing Strike. It is a permanent upgrade and the last major ability you unlock in the entire game. You cannot rush it through exploration or crafting. You get it by progressing the story.

Here are the steps to unlock it:

  1. Complete Act 2 by clearing all the biomes and defeating the boss at the end of the Cathedral.
  2. Return to the Passage after the boss fight. A cutscene will trigger.
  3. After the cutscene, a new path opens next to Primary. This path leads to the final biome: the Yellow Shore.
  4. Enter the Yellow Shore for the first time. The game immediately presents you with a yellow barrier on the main path.
  5. At this point, Saros automatically grants you the Blazing Strike upgrade.

Once you have Blazing Strike, you can destroy yellow barriers with a single melee hit, just like you do with red ones.

How to Break Yellow Barriers

After you unlock Blazing Strike, breaking yellow barriers is straightforward:

  • Walk up to any yellow barrier.
  • Tap R1 to perform your melee attack.
  • The barrier breaks instantly with one hit.

That applies to every yellow barrier in every biome. There are no additional steps or cooldowns.

Revisit Old Biomes With the World Dial

Unlocking Blazing Strike does not mean you missed out on anything. Use the World Dial to travel back to any previous biome and clear every yellow barrier room you skipped earlier. Those rooms contain artifacts, weapons, and collectibles, so revisiting them is worth your time.

Break Yellow Containers and Save Your Keys

Blazing Strike has one more useful function beyond breaking barriers. It also lets you smash open yellow locked containers without spending a Carcosan Key. This is a significant quality-of-life benefit, since yellow containers appear frequently across Carcosa.

With yellow containers no longer requiring keys, you can save your Carcosan Keys exclusively for the locked side path doors that show up during your cycle. This makes key management much less of a concern in the late game. Play Now!
