Date Everything is a wonderfully quirky game where nearly anything—including objects you’d never expect—can become a dateable character. One of the oddest and most surprisingly charming of the bunch is Vaughn Trapp, Dateable #88. Vaughn is literally a mousetrap hiding under the floor, but if you’re willing to break through his grumpy shell, you’ll find he’s got a soft side worth discovering. Here’s how to track him down and win his heart.

Where to Find Vaughn Trapp
Unlike some Dateables who hang around the house in plain sight, Vaughn Trapp is hidden away. To meet him, you’ll have to unlock a secret area called the crawlspace.
Head to the office on the first floor of your house. Inside there’s a small closet where the water heater is. Look at the floor for a white rug. Click it to reveal a trapdoor. Open the door and climb down the ladder to enter the crawlspace.
Down there, you’ll run into other hidden Dateables like Keith the Key and Bodhi Windbreaker, the Time Capsule. Just keep in mind: if you haven’t met them before, their introductions might pop up and interrupt your chat with Vaughn. If that happens, finish their scenes and talk to Vaughn again.

Your First Conversation with Vaughn
Vaughn doesn’t exactly roll out the welcome mat. When you first speak to him, he questions why you’re in his space—and even whether you’re real. You can tease him with the answer “Can any of us say for sure?” which makes him yell at you immediately. Or you can pick calmer answers if you want less drama. Either way, it doesn’t block you from continuing his story.
When he asks what you’re doing there, tell him, “I’m looking for love in all the wrong crawlspaces.” That’ll finally get him to introduce himself.
Ask him how long he’s been down there. He’ll say it’s been a while, then accuse you of staring at him. Say, “I don’t remember ever setting a mousetrap,” and quickly add, “Rat trap, sorry,” when he gets defensive about it.
Before long, Vaughn mentions he wants some cheese. When he asks if you’ve brought any, answer, “No… Should I?” That kicks off the next part of his quest—and you’ll have to go find cheese somewhere else.
Getting Cheese from Freddy the Yeti
To get cheese for Vaughn, head to the kitchen and talk to Freddy the Yeti. Freddy is your fridge—and yes, he’s also a Dateable character. If you’ve never spoken to him before, you’ll have to sit through his introduction first. Once that’s out of the way, go back and talk to him again and tell him you’re “just looking for some cheese.” He’ll hand it over and unlock a collectible at the same time.

Bring the cheese back to Vaughn in the crawlspace. He’ll seem a little happier, though he’s still suspicious of your motives. If he mentions the idea of moving upstairs, gently tell him, “But you’re beautiful!” It won’t convince him just yet, but it starts building trust.
Vaughn Wants Rats
During your next visit, Vaughn complains that there are no rats in the crawlspace for him to snap at. This part of the quest is pretty important because it decides whether you’ll end up with his Love ending, stay just friends, or blow the whole romance completely.
When he complains about the lack of rats, say, “Sounds like the house is secure. Great!” He’ll probably get annoyed. Follow up by saying, “No. Actually, I think you’re kinda cute.” Vaughn will be surprised, and he’ll soften up a bit.
Eventually, he wonders if you can help get him some rats. That’s your cue to say, “What if I could do that? I can order things on the computer…” And that leads you to your next Dateable helper.
Getting Help from Mac
You’ll need Mac’s help to solve Vaughn’s rat problem. Mac is your office computer and also a Dateable character. If it’s your first time meeting Mac, they’ll launch into their own intro dialogue. Finish that, then come back to talk about Vaughn.
When you bring up rats, Mac might misunderstand and think you’re talking about computer mice. Correct them by saying, “No, I said rat and I meant rat.” Mac will start browsing an online store for you.
You’ll get two options: a box of dead rats or a rat plushie. If you want Vaughn’s Love ending, pick the plush rat. If you accidentally buy the dead rats, you’ll get locked into his Friendship route, and there’s no way to switch back to romance. So choose carefully!
Tell Mac, “Can we do plush rats, please?” Mac will order it, and it’ll arrive in-game the next day.
Giving Vaughn the Plush Rat
Come back to Vaughn with the plush rat. He’ll immediately ask what you’re holding. Tell him, “Yuuuuup!” and explain it’s a plushie he can snap as much as he wants.
Vaughn warms up fast after that. When he asks what to do with the plushie, tell him, “Keep it. Snuggle it. Whatever. I know it gets pretty lonely down here.” Vaughn will admit no one’s ever done anything so nice for him. Tell him, “But you deserve it.”

He’ll wonder why anyone would do that for someone like him. You can reply, “Maybe I’m one of those weirdos too.” Vaughn will finally confess that he likes you. If you answer with, “I like you too, Vaughn,” you’ll unlock his Love ending.
Once you’ve sealed the deal, Vaughn moves out of the crawlspace and into the Office, where you’ll find him hanging out under some shelves. Plus, after finishing his romance, you can craft Vaughn’s Realization Recipe to bring him “more to life,” which unlocks extra collectibles and new interactions with him in future visits.
Vaughn’s Other Endings
If you choose the dead rats instead of the plush, Vaughn will stay your friend but won’t become a romantic partner. Or, if you flat-out reject his affection, you’ll get the Hate ending, and he’ll cut things off completely. So if you’re aiming for love, pay attention to your choices and stick to the plush rat!

Vaughn’s SPECS
If you’re into stats, here’s how Vaughn stacks up in Date Everything:
Dateable | Smarts | Poise | Empathy | Charm | Sass |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Vaughn Trapp | 50 | 25 | 80 | 60 | 35 |
Vaughn Trapp’s story in Date Everything is one of the game’s most quirky and unexpectedly sweet romances. While he’s a little rough around the edges, players who stick it out will find that even a mousetrap can be a softie at heart. For anyone who loves a good oddball romance, Vaughn Trapp is definitely worth the trip into the crawlspace.
