How to Place Signs in Death Stranding 2: On The Beach

Placing a sign is easy and doesn’t interrupt your movement. Just hold the D-pad to open the sign menu. A wheel will pop up showing different categories of signs. Use the right stick to pick a group, then press L1 or R1 to scroll through the signs inside it. Once you find the one you want, press X to place it.

You can put a sign anywhere Sam can stand, even if the ground is slightly sloped. Once it’s placed, other players can see your player ID and title when they walk up to it.

To remove a sign you placed, stand near it and hold the menu button.

What Signs Do in Death Stranding 2: On The Beach

Signs don’t change the story or missions, but they do a lot to help other players. Some signs give buffs like stamina or speed boosts. Others point out danger, give directions, or just let someone know they’re doing a good job. Players can walk through a sign to “like” it. You get likes from others, and you can give them back by walking through their signs too.

The more likes your sign gets, the more players it will show up for. At first, it only appears in a few worlds, but with enough likes, it spreads wider. Likes also help increase your Bridge Grade, which tracks your contributions to the game’s shared world.

Note: You can’t see likes on a sign from far away. You’ll need to find the sign in your own world to check. You can also view your total likes from the Social Strand Service under Gameplay Statistics.

The Types of Signs You Can Use

There are several categories of signs. Each one is useful for different situations.

Communication Signs

These signs are mostly for encouragement or support. Some play sounds when you walk by, while others give small boosts.

  • Keep On Keeping On, You Got This! – Restore stamina
  • Stay Warm!, Don’t Let the Heat Get You Down! – Protect you briefly from cold or heat
  • I Did It!, Amazing!, Bon Voyage! – Just good vibes
  • Good Work, Lou! – Plays a sound Lou likes
  • Yamato Transport’s Cat Logo – Plays a jingle and gives you a small mood boost

These are great to place near rest areas, shelters, or after a long climb.

These signs help with navigation and safety.

  • Shelter from Timefall Here, Photo Spot – Point out helpful or scenic areas
  • Animals Nearby – Shows wildlife is present nearby

These are best for marking tricky terrain or helpful stops.

Direction and Symbol Signs

These help players find their way or celebrate movement.

  • Go Left, Go Right, Go Up, Go Down – Give directions
  • Point of Interest, Check This Out! – Highlight something nearby
  • I Climbed Up Here!, I Jumped Across! – Mark achievements in traversal

Note: There are two types of “I Jumped Across!”—one for regular jumps and one for jumps with a Tri-Cruiser.

Use these when you’ve found a better path or cleared a tough section.

Online Help Signs

These only work if you’re playing online and need help from others.

  • Request: Delivery – Ask someone to deliver cargo
  • Supply Requests – Ask for weapons, tools, or repair materials
  • Construction Requests – Ask others to build ladders, bridges, battery stations, shelters, cargo storage, or tactical bases
  • Request: Defeat Enemies – Ask for help clearing hostile areas
  • Construction Request: Beach Jump – Request a fast-travel spot for jumping between distant zones

These are best placed when you’re stuck or don’t have the tools to move forward.

Why Signs Matter in Death Stranding 2: On The Beach

Even if you play solo, placing signs helps others and feels rewarding. A simple encouragement, warning, or shortcut could make a big difference for someone else. And in return, your signs earn Likes and reach more players. The system isn’t about leaderboard scores—it’s about small moments of support that tie the world together.

If you want your signs to help more people, try placing them:

  • Near tricky delivery routes
  • In places with high BT activity
  • At scenic or peaceful rest spots

In Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, signs are an easy way to help other players without ever meeting them. Whether you’re guiding them through tough areas, boosting their stamina, or making them smile, every sign you leave adds something to their journey. So don’t skip this system—it’s a quiet but meaningful way to connect.
