Alora in Soulframe — The Role She’s Wanted All Along
Speaking to GamesRadar at the Golden Joystick Awards, English revealed she will voice Alora, the Empress of Eldveil, in Soulframe. And for her, the part hits every creative note she has ever wanted to explore.
As she put it, “Oh, my God, it’s my dream part. I play a fairy empress, and her morals are in line with nature itself.” She also shared that she performs the role with a light Welsh accent — a touch she described as thrilling to bring to life.
While Digital Extremes has not shared extensive details on Alora’s narrative significance, early hints suggest she won’t be a minor background figure. English noted that the character speaks poetically in threes, and concept art released by the studio shows a figure woven with natural and insect-like elements — an otherworldly design that fits the game’s fantastical tone.
Given the scale of Soulframe as an MMO and English’s rising prominence, Alora is likely to be a central character, potentially guiding the narrative or serving as a key force in the world’s political or spiritual hierarchy.
A Voice That Has Become Synonymous With Modern Fantasy
Since the success of Baldur’s Gate 3, English has reached a rare point where her voice instantly sparks recognition among fans. Players of Expedition 33 even joked about hearing Shadowheart in Maelle’s intense combat calls — though the characters could not be more different in actual behaviour and tone.
Her ability to bring distinct personalities to each role is part of why her casting in Soulframe stands out. A morally attuned “fairy empress” is far removed from the conflicted cultist origins of Shadowheart or the painter-warrior duality of Maelle. It’s a chance for English to explore a new emotional palette while continuing her run of impactful performances.
