Microsoft has started testing a new Microsoft 365 Family upgrade prompt directly inside the Settings app on Windows 11. The change appears in the Accounts section for users enrolled in the Windows Insider Program Beta Channel, signaling Microsoft’s continued push to surface subscription options more visibly inside the OS.
What’s New in the Latest Windows 11 Beta Build
In Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.7859, Microsoft now shows an “Upgrade” option for users who already subscribe to Microsoft 365 Family.
The prompt appears on the Accounts page in Settings and encourages users to move to a different Microsoft 365 plan with additional productivity features. This change rolls out gradually through Microsoft’s controlled feature rollout system, so not every Beta user will see it immediately.
The new UI element sits alongside existing subscription details such as billing, storage, and sharing options. When users select Upgrade, Windows redirects them to Microsoft’s subscription flow rather than forcing an in-app purchase.
Microsoft also gives users control over visibility. You can remove the upgrade suggestion by turning off Suggested Content in Settings, which keeps the Accounts page focused on core account management.
Microsoft continues to blend Windows with its subscription ecosystem. By placing upgrade prompts inside system settings, the company reduces friction between OS usage and service upgrades.
This approach mirrors recent changes across Windows 11, where Microsoft highlights cloud storage, Copilot features, and account-based services more prominently. The company frames this as discoverability rather than enforcement, especially since the prompt remains optional and dismissible.
Beta-Only for Now, Wider Rollout Possible
Because this feature ships through the Beta Channel, Microsoft may still adjust or remove it before a public release. Features tested with Insiders do not always reach stable builds, but similar subscription prompts have historically made it into mainstream Windows versions.
If feedback stays neutral or positive, this upgrade prompt could become standard for Microsoft 365 Family users in a future Windows 11 update.
For now, the feature remains limited to Insiders, but it offers a clear preview of where Windows account management is headed next.
