Ministry of Ayush and Department of Biotechnology sign MoU

MoU between Ayush and Biotech Ministries: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Ministry of Ayush and the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India for mutual collaboration to explore the prospect of cooperation, convergence, and synergy to bring out the knowledge on a single platform for evidence-based biotechnological interventions in the Ayush sector. Secretary, Ministry of Ayush Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha and Secretary, Department of Biotechnology Dr. Rajesh S Gokhale were present on this occasion along with another official of both the ministries.

There are huge opportunities to do groundbreaking and novel research on Ayush systems as a result of this partnership between biotechnology and traditional healthcare practices. For the research and application of this old scientific system of health care into the public health care sphere, multi-pronged and technical approaches are needed. As a result of biotechnological R & D and Ayush Interventions, chronic diseases including diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, osteoarthritis, cachexia, pain management, and infectious diseases like tuberculosis will be reduced in terms of morbidity and quality of life (Vayahsthaapana Rasayana).

During this occasion, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha remarked that the MoU between the Ministry of Ayush and DBT is expected to lead to coordinated research in the Ayush sector, and the enormous untapped potential of the Ayush health care system may be leveraged for the benefit of the community, Inter-Ministerial cooperation between the Ayush Ministry and DBT is expected to produce information and innovative methods of intervention techniques for tough to treat diseases, according to Dr. Rajesh S Gokhale. With this combined R&D effort, extending from basic research through validation and then to product development, Indian contributions to this crucial area will rise dramatically, both nationally and internationally. Studies of Ayurveda Therapeutics using animal models of disease and advanced analytical methodologies as well as data analysis tools would be prioritized in this research project.
