Path of Exile 2 (PoE2) is shaping up to be a massive ARPG experience, and with its release across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox, one of the biggest questions players ask is: Does it support cross progression? The good news is yes—PoE2 lets you carry your character progress across platforms, provided you link your accounts correctly. Here’s how it works and what you need to know before diving in.

What Is Cross Progression in PoE2?
Cross progression means you can log into the same Path of Exile 2 account on multiple platforms and continue playing the same characters without losing progress. For example, if you start your journey on PC but later want to play on PS5, you can pick up right where you left off, as long as your accounts are linked.
This feature is a big win for players who split time between different devices or simply want the flexibility to keep playing no matter the platform.

How to Link Your Accounts
To unlock cross progression, you’ll need to link your accounts through the official Path of Exile website. The process is permanent, so double-check before confirming:
- Log in on your main account
- Use the account details tied to your current platform (Steam, PSN, or Xbox).
- Add an email address
- If your account is tied to a platform login only, you must connect an email. This creates a central Path of Exile login.
- Verify your email
- You’ll receive a verification email. Confirm it to finalize your primary login credentials.
- Go to Manage Account
- On the Path of Exile site, click your name at the top left and choose Manage Account.
- Link another platform
- Choose the console or service you want to connect. You’ll get a new confirmation email.
- Confirm the link
- Log into your other platform account through the link and finalize the connection. Once done, the accounts are permanently linked.
Important: Linking is one-way and cannot be undone. Make sure you are logged into the correct accounts before confirming.
What Carries Over Between Platforms?
When you link accounts, here’s what you can expect:
- Characters & Progression: Your characters, quest progress, skill trees, and gear are fully shared across PC, PS5, and Xbox.
- Shared Stash: Core stash items transfer between platforms under the same account.
- Cosmetics & Microtransactions: This is where limitations appear:
- Purchases made on PlayStation stay locked to PlayStation.
- Purchases on PC and Xbox are shared between those two, but not with PS5.
- Currency: Just like in Path of Exile 1, platform-specific credits (PlayStation Store currency, Steam Wallet, etc.) do not carry over. You’ll need to buy cosmetics separately if switching stores.
Do You Need to Buy PoE2 More Than Once?
During early access, the answer is yes. Each platform requires its own purchase or access key. If you bought PoE2 on PC but want to play on Xbox, you’ll need to buy the Xbox license too.
The silver lining: once PoE2 leaves early access, it will follow the same free-to-play model as Path of Exile 1. At that point, you’ll be able to take full advantage of cross progression without extra purchases, aside from optional cosmetics.
Cross Progression vs. Cross Play
It’s worth clarifying the difference:
- Cross Play: Lets you team up with friends across PC, PS5, and Xbox in real time.
- Cross Progression: Lets you continue your own character and stash across multiple platforms with a linked account.
PoE2 supports both. That means you can party with friends on other systems and also freely jump between your own devices without losing progress.
PoE2 Cross Progression: Things to Check Before Linking
Before you finalize account linking in Path of Exile 2, make sure you follow these checks:
- Triple-check you’re logged into the correct accounts. Once linked, it cannot be undone.
- Expect MTX and credits to remain partially platform-locked.
- If you want to wait, the full free-to-play launch will remove the need to buy multiple licenses.
