PEAK: How to Ping and Emote (Controls, Emote Wheel & Tips)

PEAK is a co-op survival climbing game where teamwork and quick, silent communication can mean the difference between success and a dangerous fall. While voice chat is helpful, it’s not always practical—especially when playing with strangers. That’s where the game’s built-in ping system and emote wheel come in. Whether you’re marking useful items or sharing a quick gesture with your team, this guide will show you exactly how to ping and emote in PEAK.

How to Ping in PEAK

In a game where climbing is slow and survival is crucial, being able to silently point out important finds is invaluable. PEAK includes a built-in ping feature to let players mark helpful items or locations without voice chat.

How to Ping a Location:

  • Step 1: Aim your crosshair at the item or area you want to mark — this could be food, gear, luggage boxes, or a shortcut.
  • Step 2: Press the middle mouse button (click the scroll wheel).
  • Step 3: Your character will place a ping on the selected object, visible to your teammates.

You can ping repeatedly and at any time during gameplay. It’s especially useful when you’ve spotted something important but can’t pick it up yourself. Your teammates can follow the ping to investigate.

Pro Tip: Use pings to coordinate movement, alert others about hazards, or share limited resources when backpacks are full.

Running out of backpack space? Just ping the item so teammates with free slots can pick it up instead.

How to Use Emotes in PEAK

While pings serve tactical communication, emotes add a bit of personality. In a tense game like PEAK, a simple gesture — like a dance or a shrug — can lighten the mood or help bond with your group.

How to Perform an Emote:

  • Pressing the R key will trigger a quick default emote.
  • Holding down the R key brings up the Emote Wheel.
  • Move your mouse to hover over the emote you want.
  • Release the R key, and your character will instantly perform the selected emote.

All Emotes Available in PEAK:

You don’t need to unlock or equip these — they’re available by default:

  • Play Dead
  • Shrug
  • Crossed Arms
  • Dance
  • Thumbs Up
  • Salute
  • Think
  • No No

At this time, there’s no emote customization, unlock progression, or alternate sets — all eight emotes are available from the start.

Where and When You Should Emote in PEAK

While emotes are purely visual and don’t impact gameplay directly, they can affect movement. PEAK’s climbing system is sensitive, and triggering an emote mid-jump or near a ledge might send you into danger.

To avoid unwanted slips:

  • Use emotes in flat or safe zones like campsites or rest points.
  • Don’t trigger emotes while climbing or jumping, especially near cliffs.

Why Use Pings and Emotes?

  • Pings: Help your team find useful items, mark paths, or warn about risks.
  • Emotes: Let you express moods, celebrate a tricky climb, or react to teammates without needing voice chat.

Together, these features make PEAK’s co-op gameplay feel more alive and collaborative — even when you’re not speaking a word.
