How to Play PEAK With More Than 4 Players Using Mods (Easy Setup Guide)

PEAK is all about climbing with your friends through tough environments. But if you’ve got more than three buddies who want to tag along, the default four-player limit might be a letdown. Thankfully, there’s a way around it—and it’s pretty easy too.

With a free community mod called PEAK Unlimited, you can raise the player cap and climb with a big group. You don’t need everyone to install it either—just the host.

Why the Game Only Allows 4 Players by Default

PEAK was designed for up to four (4) players, so it runs smoothly and keeps things stable. But if you’ve got a good PC and a big crew, you can push that limit higher using a mod. Just know that more players might make the game a bit more laggy or buggy depending on your setup.

What Is PEAK Unlimited?

PEAK Unlimited is a mod that lifts the four-player cap and lets you host games with up to 20 players. It also adds extra marshmallows (the in-game revive item) so no one is left out.

Only the person hosting the game needs to install the mod. Your friends can join just like normal, no extra steps for them.

How to Install the PEAK Unlimited Mod

Here’s a quick walkthrough on how to install the PEAK Unlimited mod. Don’t worry—it’s beginner-friendly.

Step 1: Download BepInEx

BepInEx is the mod framework PEAK Unlimited needs to run.

  • Go to Thunderstore or GitHub and download the BepInEx for Windows x64 zip file.
  • To find your game folder, open Steam, right-click on PEAK → ManageBrowse local files.
  • Extract all the BepInEx files into this folder.

Step 2: Launch PEAK Once

After you copy everything in, launch the game once, then close it. This helps set up the mod folders in the background, like the plugins folder you’ll need next.

If that folder doesn’t show up, you may need to redo this step.

Step 3: Install the Mod

  • Head to the PEAK Unlimited page on Thunderstore.
  • Click on Manual Download and open the zip file.
  • Find the file named PeakUnlimited.dll and copy it into: .../PEAK/BepInEx/plugins

That’s it! Now when you launch the game, the new player cap is enabled.

Change Player Count or Marshmallow Settings

Want fewer than 20 people? Or don’t want extra marshmallows? You can change that too.

  • Go to:
    .../PEAK/BepInEx/config/PeakUnlimited.cfg
  • Open it in Notepad or any text editor.
  • Change MaxPlayerCount to whatever number you want.
  • To stop extra marshmallows from spawning, change ExtraMarshmallows to false.

Save the file, and you’re good to go.

Important Tips Before You Start

  • Only the host needs the mod—your friends don’t have to do anything.
  • The mod is safe and doesn’t block Steam achievements.
  • Too many players might cause lag or weird behavior, depending on your system.
  • Everyone in the game should use the same graphics API (either DirectX 12 or Vulkan). Otherwise, you might run into connection or audio issues.
  • If you run into problems, don’t message the game devs—try disabling mods first or checking the Steam forums.

Alternatives to PEAK Unlimited

There’s also a mod called MoreScouts that does something similar. It also boosts the limit to 20 players and works with BepInEx the same way. It’s a solid backup in case PEAK Unlimited ever stops working.

Join the Community and Climb Together

Looking for more people to play with? Or just want to share cool climbing stories? There’s an official PEAK Discord server where you can do just that. Make sure to use the right channel—peak-lfg—when finding teammates.

PEAK is even better when you can bring your whole group along for the climb. Thanks to the PEAK Unlimited mod, that’s now possible—even if the game doesn’t support it natively. Just follow the steps, make sure your config settings match your needs, and have fun scaling mountains with all your friends.
