To mark a full decade of live service gameplay, Pokémon GO has introduced a brand-new in-game camera feature called “What’s Your Favorite?”. The update kicks off the game’s 10th anniversary celebrations and also ties into the wider 30-year milestone of the Pokémon franchise.

The feature is available now and focuses on social sharing, creativity, and accessibility for both new and returning Trainers.
A New Way to Take Photos With Pokémon
“What’s Your Favorite?” lets players take photos with almost any Pokémon in the game, even if they have never caught that Pokémon before. Trainers simply choose a Pokémon, frame the shot, and capture a photo directly inside the app.

The tool includes a built-in timer, making solo photos easy, along with stickers and frames for light customization. The goal is simple: help players show off their favorite Pokémon in a more personal and shareable way.
Where to Find the New Camera Feature in Pokémon GO
Players can access the new camera mode in two different ways:
- Logged-in Trainers can open it from the main menu using the camera icon or by selecting the camera item from their inventory.
- New or logged-out users can find it on the login screen after entering their date of birth by tapping “Take a photo.”
This design makes the feature usable even before completing account setup, which lowers the barrier for new players.
Special Research Rewards Available for New Pokémon GO Trainers
The anniversary update also introduces a limited Special Research path tied to the new feature. New Trainers who use “What’s Your Favorite?” and then create an account can unlock bonus rewards.
After taking a photo and logging in within three days, eligible players can earn in-game items, a Gengar encounter, and 100 PokéCoins. Trainers can claim this research until March 31, 2026, and the tasks do not expire once unlocked.
Some Limits Still Apply
While the feature supports most Pokémon, it does not include alternate or special forms. Costumed Pokémon, Mega-Evolved Pokémon, and Max or Gigantamax forms remain unavailable for photos in this mode. The focus stays on core Pokémon appearances rather than battle variants.
Instead of launching with combat changes or major system overhauls, Pokémon GO’s anniversary update puts creativity and community first. The new camera tool encourages players to share memories, highlight favorite Pokémon, and participate in the celebration across social platforms.
With more anniversary announcements expected later this year, “What’s Your Favorite?” serves as an accessible and lighthearted way to begin Pokémon GO’s 10th year—one snapshot at a time.
