Pokémon GO is evolving again — this time, with one of the biggest progression overhauls since launch. Starting October 15, 2025, Niantic is reworking the game’s leveling system, raising the Trainer level cap from 50 to 80 and rebalancing how XP and rewards are distributed. The update introduces new ways to earn experience, cosmetic unlocks, and daily activities to keep your journey fresh.

Level Cap Raised to 80
The headline change is clear: Trainers can now climb up to Level 80, up from the previous limit of 50. Pokémon themselves will still cap out at Level 50, but Trainers have 30 new milestones to aim for.
With this expansion comes a major XP rebalance. The XP required for each level has been restructured, making early- and mid-level progression feel smoother while maintaining late-game challenge. Importantly, no player will lose levels when the update goes live. Instead, your existing XP total will be recalculated to fit the new curve, meaning anyone at Level 23 or higher will instantly gain at least one level when logging in after the update.
New XP Requirements for Leveling Up
To help understand how the new progression works, here are the total XP requirements at major milestones:
Level | Total XP Required |
---|---|
10 | 48,000 XP |
20 | 258,000 XP |
30 | 1,083,000 XP |
40 | 3,953,000 XP |
50 | 12,753,000 XP |
60 | 34,353,000 XP |
70 | 85,853,000 XP |
80 | 203,353,000 XP |
From Levels 71 to 80, Trainers must not only accumulate XP but also complete new Level-Up Research tasks, replacing the old tasks previously used for Levels 41–50. These objectives will likely involve familiar challenges such as catching specific Pokémon, purifying Shadows, or completing raids.
Leveling Rewards and Storage Upgrades
Leveling up isn’t just about bragging rights — Niantic has reworked how rewards scale.
Players now gain:
- Expanded storage capacity for Pokémon, Items, Gifts, and Postcards
- Avatar cosmetics tied to specific level milestones
- Automatic retroactive rewards for levels you’ve already passed
This means if you jump from Level 45 to 60 after the update, you’ll receive all the corresponding avatar gear and storage upgrades instantly.
All New Avatar Rewards
One of the most exciting updates is the expanded line of Trainer cosmetics, giving you new ways to personalize your look as you progress. Here’s the full list of avatar items you can unlock:
Level | Reward |
---|---|
25 | Poké Ball Cap |
30 | Poké Ball Shoes |
35 | Poké Ball Jacket |
40 | Great Ball Cap |
45 | Great Ball Shoes |
50 | Great Ball Jacket |
55 | Ultra Ball Cap |
60 | Ultra Ball Shoes |
65 | Ultra Ball Jacket |
71 | Level 71 Shoes |
73 | Level 73 Shades |
75 | Level 75 Pants |
77 | Level 77 Pose |
79 | Level 79 Hairstyles (Short & Long) |
80 | Level 80 Jacket |
Players who already passed these levels before the update will automatically receive the appropriate rewards. However, the Level 50 Jacket is being retired — it can no longer be unlocked after the new system launches, though existing owners will keep it.
Daily Adventure Egg — A New Way to Earn XP
Starting at Level 15, Trainers can access the Daily Adventure Egg, a brand-new activity similar to the Daily Adventure Incense. Here’s how it works:
- When you log in each day, a Daily Adventure Egg is automatically placed in its own special Incubator.
- The Egg requires 1 km of walking to hatch.
- Hatching grants 10,000 XP plus a Pokémon encounter.
- You can only hold one Daily Adventure Egg at a time, and it doesn’t count toward your standard Egg storage.
This addition encourages regular play while offering an easy XP boost for casual exploration.
Lucky Friend Boost at Level 70
Social features are getting a quiet upgrade too. Once you hit Level 70, your odds of becoming Lucky Friends with existing Best Friends increase, making it easier to trade high-value Pokémon with better IVs. This change gives high-level Trainers more incentive to keep gifting and interacting with their close friends list.
XP Celebration Box on Web Store
To celebrate the new progression system, the Pokémon GO Web Store is offering the XP Celebration Ultra Box for US$9.99 (or regional equivalent). It includes:
- 15 Lucky Eggs
- 1 Super Incubator
- 1 Incubator
- 5 Incense
- 2 Lure Modules
Each Trainer can purchase up to three boxes, helping speed up the early grind toward those shiny new level caps.
