PS4 Exclusive Entwined Removed from PlayStation Store Without Warning

In a surprising move, the PS4-exclusive title Entwined has been quietly delisted from the PlayStation Store in several major regions. Players can no longer buy it digitally. The sudden removal comes with no public explanation from Sony. This has sparked curiosity—and some concern—about why the game disappeared.

A Flashback to Entwined’s Debut

Entwined launched during Sony’s E3 2014 press conference. It was announced and released on the same day—a “shadow drop” that drew attention for its artistic flair. Developed by PixelOpus, a California-based studio under Sony, the game offers a visually striking world. Players control two entities—a bird and a fish—using the PS4’s dual analog sticks. The goal is to guide them through abstract tunnels, bringing them together in harmony.

Despite its creative vision and memorable music, Entwined saw modest reviews and sales. Critics praised its art style and soundtrack, but some found the gameplay repetitive. After debuting on PS4, Sony also released it for the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita. Thanks to backward compatibility, the game remained playable on the PS5—until now.

Delisted Without a Word

Reports show Entwined has been removed from the PlayStation Store in the United States, the United Kingdom, and much of Europe. Interestingly, it’s still available in Japan. This adds more confusion to the mystery. No one knows if the delisting is temporary or permanent.

Sony hasn’t released any official statement. Games often leave digital stores due to licensing issues, music rights, or server shutdowns. However, these factors seem unlikely here. Entwined is owned entirely by Sony and has no multiplayer. It’s a single-player game without external licenses.

PixelOpus and the End of the Road

The uncertainty partly comes from PixelOpus itself. The studio closed in 2023 while working on a PS5 project. After Entwined, PixelOpus developed Concrete Genie in 2019. That game was an action-adventure featuring street art and innovative motion controls. Unlike Entwined, Concrete Genie is still available on the PlayStation Store.

The closure leaves Entwined without a developer to maintain or protect its availability. This could explain why Sony removed it, though the exact reason remains a mystery.

Still Playable for Existing Owners… For Now

The good news is that anyone who already bought Entwined can still download and play it. However, new players wanting to try this piece of PlayStation history are out of luck. At least for now, until Sony shares more details or restores it to the store.

Entwined is also part of the PlayStation Plus Extra catalog. Yet it’s unclear whether this removal hints at it leaving that subscription as well.

Is This the End for Entwined?

Right now, the disappearance of Entwined is still a mystery. It might be a technical error, a business decision, or simply an oversight.

If Entwined doesn’t return, it could become one of those lost digital-only games. This highlights how fragile it is to preserve smaller titles in the digital age. Until Sony says more, the story of Entwined reminds us that even first-party exclusives can vanish without warning.
