Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi has launched its latest budget smartphone series, the Redmi 12 4G and Redmi 12 5G, in India. Both phones have a large 6.79-inch full-HD+ display with a smooth 90Hz refresh rate, a touch sampling rate of 240Hz, and a peak brightness of 550 nits.
These phones have a sleek design with a flat frame and a premium glass back panel, which is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. The main difference between the two models lies in their processors and camera setups. The Redmi 12 4G is powered by a MediaTek Helio G88 processor, up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.
On the other hand, the Redmi 12 5G comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 processor, up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Both models also support virtual RAM extensions, up to 6GB and 8GB, respectively. Redmi 12 5G is the first India’s phone to be powered by Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset.
As for the cameras, the Redmi 12 4G features a triple rear camera setup, consisting of a 48MP primary sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 2MP depth sensor. On the other hand, the Redmi 12 5G boasts a dual rear camera setup, which includes a 50MP primary sensor, and a 2MP depth sensor. For selfies, both models come with a 8MP front camera housed in a hole-punch cutout on the display.
The Redmi 12 series phones are equipped with 5000mAh battery that supports 18W wired fast charging. They also come with features like dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v5.3, IR blaster, and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. These devices run on the Android 13 with MIUI 14.
