Samsung is considering adding an integrated S Pen slot, stylus to a future Galaxy Z Fold model, currently S Pen is only as an optional accessory for Z Fold models.

Samsung has been awarded a U.S. patent for foldable model phones, that have on-device storage for the S Pen.

The patent, titled “Electronic device using electronic pen and method thereof,” shows two ways of adding an S Pen slot to the foldable phone, either on the back or the side.

Samsung might have had engineering challenges, such as thickness or weight, that stopped them from adding an integrated S Pen slot to foldable phones.

But the patent design change could enable Samsung to include the S Pen with the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and offer a convenient way to place it on the device without making it thicker.

The patent also hints at possible physical buttons on the S Pen, which could be customizable for specific actions on the Galaxy phone.

Stylus support is seen as a crucial feature for the Galaxy Z Fold to compete with other foldable phones, particularly in terms of multitasking.

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is expected to feature a dust-resistant body and a larger cover display but retain the same cameras as Galaxy Z Fold 5. Expected to release in July or August 2024.

Although patents only represent ideas and don't guarantee implementation. There is a demand for better S Pen storage on the Galaxy Z Fold in order to compete in the foldable phone market.
