Kannur Squad, a Malayalam crime action thriller directed by Roby Varghese Raj and starring Mammootty as ASI George is now streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
The film follows the team as they go on a nationwide trail to hunt down the criminals behind a high-profile murder and robbery at a politician’s house in Kasargod.
The film is co-written by Muhammed Shafi and actor Rony David Raj, who also plays one of the team members.
The film is a solid police procedural that unfolds at a measured tempo, avoiding excessive dramatisation.
The film shows the challenges and risks faced by the lower rung policemen who go the extra mile to get the work done, despite facing resentment and corruption allegations within the police force.
He is ably supported by the other actors, such as Rony David, Azeez Nedumangad, Shabareesh Varma, Kishore Kumar G, Vijayaraghavan, Sunny Wayne and Shebin Benson.
Ankith Madhav does a commendable job as a UP constable, who becomes a part of the team and guides them through the rough and unfamiliar parts of north India.
The film’s cinematography by Muhammed Rahil is excellent, capturing the dramatic moments in small spaces and the grandeur of landscapes.
