Mistveil Forest looks like a deadly, late-game zone the first time you step into it. Dense fog, constant poison buildup, and almost no visibility make it seem impossible to explore. But this entire area is actually the centerpiece of a focused questline—The Ephemeral Blight—built around tracking down three “Mistveil Forest Cures” and clearing out the corruption behind the poisonous haze.

How to Start The Ephemeral Blight Quest
Before you can search for any cures, you must trigger the quest in Mistveil Forest.
- Enter the fog
- Walk deep enough into the poisonous mist until the toxin overwhelms you and a cutscene triggers.
- You’ll collapse and be carried to a small home at the forest’s edge.
- Meet Zhai Xu
- When you wake up, you’ll find yourself in the house of a healer named Zhai Xu.
- Pick up the jade pendant near your bed, talk to him, and explore the room for clues.
- Steal the first cure notes
- Zhai Xu keeps two important books on his table. He won’t willingly let you inspect them, so you must distract him.
- Use Meridian Touch on the hanging chime to lure him outside, then quickly take the books from the table.
- These contain the first Mistveil Forest Cure and the Thousand-Wish Amendment, which becomes the core clue for finding the other two cures.
- Read Thousand-Wish Amendment
- Leave the house, open your Bag, and read the book under Quest Items.
- This formally unlocks the objective to find the remaining cures.
All Mistveil Forest Cures – Full Breakdown
There are three cures total, located across different faction sites surrounding Mistveil Forest:
- Wishing Cove Cure – found in Zhai Xu’s home (already collected when you steal his books).
- Hollow Abode Cure – located in a stealth-focused house southwest of the forest.
- Aureate Pavilion Cure – hidden inside a hostile outpost north of the mist.
Below is the detailed route for each.
1. Wishing Cove Cure (Zhai Xu’s House)
You automatically obtain this cure once you:
- Distract Zhai Xu with the chime
- Steal his two books
- Leave his house and read the Thousand-Wish Amendment in your inventory
Nothing further is required for this cure. The quest now pushes you toward the other two.
2. Hollow Abode Cure (Southwest Mistveil Forest)
The Hollow Abode is a guarded house that also acts as the Skill Theft dungeon for the Soulshade Umbrella.
You do not have to finish the full dungeon; you only need the cure note.

How to Get the Cure
- Travel to the southwestern edge of Mistveil Forest.
- Approach the building using stealth—Wind Sense helps track patrol patterns.
- Climb to the second floor or enter through a window to avoid direct combat.
- Find the staircase leading down into the basement.
- Assassinate the guard patrolling the stairs to avoid raising the alarm.
- On the table lit by green candles, collect the Hollow Abode Mistveil Cure.
You can leave immediately, or explore deeper to unlock the Soulshade Umbrella if you choose.
3. Aureate Pavilion Cure (Northern Outpost)
Aureate Pavilion is a full outpost located north of Mistveil Forest. It is heavily defended, but you only need to reach the central hut.

How to Get the Cure
- Circle around the edge of the forest and approach the outpost from the side.
- Either eliminate the guards or sneak past them.
- Enter the main hut in the center of the camp—look for the building with the fire pit outside.
- Inside, next to a mummified corpse on a table, collect the Aureate Pavilion Cure.
The outpost doesn’t need to be fully cleared, and no Energy expenditure is required strictly for the cure.
Turning In the Cures and Waiting for the Antidote

Once all three cures are collected:
- Return to Wishing Cove and speak with Zhai Xu.
- He’ll begin creating an antidote and asks you to wait two in-game days.
- After resting or advancing time, return to the house again.
- You’ll find a note telling you Zhai Xu has moved deeper into Mistveil Forest.
This shifts the quest into its final phase.
Clearing the Fog – Final Phase of The Ephemeral Blight
This last section plays more like a guided dungeon run through the heart of the forest.
Key objectives:
- Meet Zhai Xu in the northern wasteland
- He gives you the final cure, granting temporary immunity to the Dawn-to-Dusk poison.
- Move deeper into the forest using fire sources for protection
- Staying near fire lets you maintain resistance to the mist.
- Destroy any Dawn-to-Dusk blooms blocking your path using fire attacks.
- Reach the central tree of hanging corpses
- Investigate clues and remove additional blooms to thin the poison.
- Follow the shadowy Silver Needle Doctor
- This leads you into a hidden underground lair containing key evidence.
- Read Sun Buqi’s Notes
- These let you piece together the full story behind the poison outbreak.
- Combine the clues to unlock the final objective.
- Destroy the final Dawn-to-Dusk blooms
- Three large blossoms in the cavern are the source of the entire toxic mist.
- Return to Wishing Cove
- Speak to Zhai Xu one last time to complete The Ephemeral Blight and clear Mistveil Forest permanently.
After completion:
- The poisonous fog disappears from the world map
- A new World Boss: Ghost Master becomes available at the center of the forest
- You receive rewards such as Echo Jade, Enlightenment Points, and regional exploration progress
