A Record Broken and Reclaimed

Recently, Mae’s record of 19 minutes and 20 seconds for the any% all acts category was beaten by another runner named bisc, who managed to bring the overall time down to 18 minutes and 35 seconds. However, Mae didn’t let this stand for long. The very next day, she took back the record, bringing it down to 18 minutes and 30 seconds. This run, now archived under the name “and I took that personally,” is a testament to Mae’s determination and skill.

Honour Mode Conquered

In addition to her any% all acts record, Mae has also been pushing the boundaries in Baldur’s Gate 3’s Honour Mode. This optional, permadeath difficulty is supposed to be the hardest challenge the game has to offer. Yet, Mae managed to clear it in under 20 minutes.

One of the strategies Mae used involved an invisible bear. In Baldur’s Gate 3, when a creature falls on another, it deals damage based on the weight of the offending creature and the distance they fell. Mae increased the size of a bear, making it heavier, and then made it fall onto Ketheric Thorm while being invisible. This strategy allowed her to beat Ketheric Thorm to death with 11,000 pounds of invisible bear.

The Future of Speedrunning in Baldur’s Gate 3

Mae’s achievements in Baldur’s Gate 3 speedrunning have not only set new records but also opened up new possibilities for other runners. Her innovative strategies and relentless pursuit of faster times have invigorated the community and set a high bar for future runs.

Despite her current records, Mae believes there’s still room for improvement. During her Honour Mode run, she had to cast command twice on everyone’s favourite lantern-carrying drider in Act 2—and at around 18 minutes, she hit a ‘softlock’ that forced her to exit to the main menu and reload the game. This showcases the challenges encountered by speedrunners and the determination required to overcome them.

In the end, Mae’s story is a reminder of the spirit of speedrunning: a combination of skill, creativity, and a dash of friendly competition. As the Baldur’s Gate 3 community continues to grow and evolve, we can’t wait to see what new strategies and records will emerge.
