Here’s a full breakdown of what’s new, why the Switch 2 rollout shocked the community, and what this means for handheld Night City explorers.

A Surprise Drop for Switch 2 Players

Prior to launch, CDPR made it clear that the 2.3 update wouldn’t arrive on Switch 2 alongside other platforms. However, just hours after the patch went live elsewhere, players noticed it rolling out on Nintendo’s handheld-console hybrid as well. This early drop was met with excitement, especially since Switch 2 players had braced for a longer wait.

CD Projekt Red has yet to comment on why the update was released early for Switch 2, and the file size for this version remains unconfirmed. Nonetheless, it’s a welcome move for fans enjoying the game on the go.

What’s Included in Update 2.3?

The 2.3 patch brings lot of new content, performance improvements, and gameplay enhancements across the board. Here’s what Switch 2 players can now enjoy:

Four New Vehicles

Each vehicle brings its own style, utility, and side jobs:

  • Yaiba ARV-Q340 Semimaru – Unlockable via side jobs: The Hunt and The Beast In Me.
  • Rayfield Caliburn “Mordred” – Tied to a chain of quests including The Beast In Me: Badlands, Santo Domingo, Transmission, and Search and Destroy.
  • Yaiba ASM-R250 Muramasa (Motorcycle) – Earned after buying 1 Yaiba vehicle, 3 from Autofixer, and finishing Reported Crime: You Play With Fire….
  • Chevillon Legatus 450 Aquila – Available directly through Autofixer.

An additional side job unlocks the Rayfield CrystalCoat for the Semimaru.

AutoDrive Feature

One of the most celebrated additions, AutoDrive lets players set a destination and let their vehicle take the wheel. Just hold Left Stick (console) while in any owned vehicle to activate. It disables during combat or when the vehicle is too damaged.

AutoDrive is also paired with a Cinematic Camera mode. Hold D-Pad Right (consoles) to trigger a stylish travel view of Night City as you ride.

Self-Driving Delamain Cabs

Switch players can now summon Delamain’s AI-driven taxis for easy travel.

This feature unlocks after completing the mission Don’t Lose Your Mind (regardless of outcome) and receiving a follow-up message from Delamain.

Enhanced Vehicle Customization

The Rayfield CrystalCoat system is now usable on more partner brand vehicles and motorcycles. A cracked version, created by the in-universe hacker “Cosmetic_Troll,” can be applied to lower-end vehicles, though not all models support it—especially modded nomad or mission-specific cars.

Upgraded Photo Mode: A Creative Playground

Photo Mode gets a major boost with new options and visual control tools:

  • 27 new NPCs to pose with, like Dum Dum and the Cassel twins.
  • Wardrobe switching for both V and NPCs.
  • New lighting behavior and camera-relative light spawn points.
  • Cinematic spotlight indicators now appear on screen for better control.
  • Improved light movement when using controllers.

Other key features:

  • Depth of Field moved to the Camera tab.
  • Color Balance and custom filters now available.
  • “Time and Weather” tab lets you set fog, acid rain, or sunshine while adjusting time of day.
  • “Frame Forward” lets you advance animation one frame at a time for the perfect capture.
  • You can also enable in-game time flow during Photo Mode, allowing more natural screenshot sequences.

Gameplay Improvements

CD Projekt Red also addressed many player feedback points:

  • Inverted mouse detection now updates button prompts correctly.
  • Toggle option for aim down sights added to settings.
  • Tutorial replays can now be triggered anytime from the controls menu.
  • Automatic weapons now fire at the correct rate.
  • Level 60 Engineer perk no longer triggers EMPs in vehicles or outside combat.
  • Missed Cyberware Capacity Shards now drop properly.

  • Fixes for “Shot by Both Sides” address missing elevator prompts and bugged inventory items.

Miscellaneous Changes

  • V’s Radioport sound issues and uneven audio levels for tracks like “History” are fixed.
  • HDR calibration preview now behaves as expected with clearer UI explanations.

Platform-Specific Changes (Not on Switch 2, But Still Important)

While these features are not available on the Nintendo Switch 2, they’re significant improvements for players on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S:

For PC Players:

  • AMD FSR 4 and FSR 3.1 Frame Generation: These are advanced graphics technologies that boost frame rates and performance on compatible AMD graphics cards.
  • Intel XeSS 2.0: Similar to FSR, this tech helps improve visual quality and smooth gameplay on supported Intel GPUs.
  • HDR10+ GAMING Support: If your monitor and GPU support it, you’ll now get better dynamic lighting and contrast while playing in HDR mode.
  • Larger Save Files: The game now allows save files up to 15 MB, increased from the previous 12 MB limit — helpful for long playthroughs and multiple saves.

For PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S:

Better Weather Effects: Foliage and vegetation now respond more accurately to different weather conditions, adding realism to the world.

VRR (Variable Refresh Rate): This improves visual smoothness and reduces screen tearing for supported displays.
