How to Get and Use Dust of Enlightenment in Genshin Impact (Version 5.7 Guide)

Artifact farming in Genshin Impact has always been a grind — especially when you’re trying to get the perfect sub-stats. In version 5.7, HoYoverse introduced a new item called Dust of Enlightenment, which lets you reshuffle the way your artifact’s sub-stats are upgraded. This guide explains how Dust works, how to get it, and when it’s best to use.

What Is Dust of Enlightenment?

Dust of Enlightenment is a rare five-star item that lets you reroll the sub-stat upgrade distribution on a max-level five-star artifact.

It doesn’t change the main stat or the types of sub-stats. Instead, it lets you try for a better spread of upgrades — for example, pushing more rolls into Crit Rate or Crit DMG instead of unwanted stats like DEF%.

It’s a way to polish already-decent artifacts into something great.

How to Use Dust of Enlightenment

To reshape an artifact:

  1. Go to any character’s artifact screen.
  2. Pick a five-star artifact that’s level 20.
  3. Tap the new “Reshape” button in the bottom-right corner.

Then:

  • Choose two sub-stats you want to focus on. The reshaping will make sure at least some rolls go into these two.
  • Spend Dust based on the artifact type:
    • Flower and Feather cost 1 Dust
    • Sands, Goblet, and Circlet cost 2 Dust

You’ll see both the current stats and the reshaped version. You can pick either one — but the Dust gets used up either way.

Tip: Even artifacts leveled with Sanctifying Elixirs can be reshaped using Dust.

Example: Before and After Reroll

Here’s an example of how sub-stats might change after using Dust:

Before Reroll:

  • DEF +76 (3 rolls)
  • Crit DMG +12.4% (1 roll)
  • Crit Rate +3.9%
  • Energy Recharge +11.7% (1 roll)

After Reroll:

  • DEF +58 (2 rolls)
  • Crit DMG +17.9% (2 rolls)
  • Crit Rate +3.9%
  • Energy Recharge +12.3% (1 roll)

The sub-stats stay the same, but the number of rolls into each one changes. This time, Crit DMG got better rolls.

How Reshape Tiers Work (Hallowed Exegesis)

The more Dust you use on the same artifact, the better the results get over time. This system is called Hallowed Exegesis.

Here’s how it works:

  • First reshapes: At least 2 rolls land on your chosen stats.
  • After using 6 Dust on the same artifact: Now guarantees 3 rolls on chosen stats.
  • After using 12 total Dust: Now guarantees 4 rolls on chosen stats.

So even with bad luck, you’ll eventually get great results after about 18 Dust on a single artifact.

How to Get Dust of Enlightenment

Dust is rare and limited — meant for refining your best artifacts. Here’s where to find it:

Stygian Onslaught (Permanent Mode)

  • This challenge mode unlocks eight days after a patch. Clear the Menacing and Fearless difficulty tiers and earn 1,200 Dire Prestige points to get 3 Dust per version.

Battle Pass (Paid Track)

  • At Level 38 of the Gnostic Hymn, you’ll get 1 Dust. The upgraded Gnostic Chorus version might give an extra one too.

Version Launch Login Bonus

  • Version 5.7 gave players 2 free Dusts via in-game mail. Similar rewards might show up in future updates.

Limited-Time Events (Future)

  • HoYoverse has said Dust might appear in future events, but nothing’s confirmed yet.

Tips for Using Dust of Enlightenment

Because Dust is rare, you’ll want to be careful where you use it:

  • Only use it on five-star, level 20 artifacts. Nothing else works.
  • Pick pieces with great sub-stats but bad rolls. For example: Crit Rate, Crit DMG, ATK%, and Energy Recharge — but where the rolls all landed on Energy Recharge.
  • Don’t waste it on average artifacts. You can’t change the sub-stats — just how the rolls are spread.
  • Track your reshapes. Take screenshots to compare and avoid using Dust twice on a bad reroll.
  • Use it on hard-to-farm slots. Goblets and Circlets with good main stats are hard to find, so they’re worth refining.

What Dust Can and Can’t Do

Some quick reminders before you reroll:

  • It won’t change main stats or remove bad sub-stats.
  • It won’t turn flat stats into percent stats.
  • It won’t give all rolls to one stat — there’s a limit.

Basically: It can’t turn a bad artifact into a good one — but it can make a good one amazing.

Dust of Enlightenment is a game-changer for serious artifact farming in Genshin Impact. It lets you fix bad luck on otherwise great pieces, especially rare Goblets or Circlets. While it’s not something you can use freely, knowing when and where to reshape can give your team a serious power boost. Use it wisely — and save it for your best gear.
