Emotes play a surprisingly important role in Elden Ring Nightreign. Since the game does not include voice or text chat, gestures become your main way of coordinating with your squad, celebrating victories, or simply having fun between encounters. Nightreign is built around quick visual communication, and learning how emotes work makes group expeditions feel much smoother.

How to Use Emotes in Elden Ring Nightreign
Emotes are accessed directly through your in-game menu, and the input is slightly different depending on your platform.
Step-by-Step
- Open your inventory or pause menu.
- Press the emote command shown on the right side of the screen:
- Triangle on PlayStation
- Y on Xbox
- 1 key on PC (or click the emote icon with your mouse)
- This opens the Gesture & Prattling Pate menu.
- Select the emote you want to perform, confirm, and your Nightfarer will immediately act it out.
Because emotes lock you into a short animation, it’s best to avoid using them in the middle of combat unless you enjoy unnecessary risk.
How to Favourite Emotes for Fast Access
As your library expands, scrolling through a long list during heated expeditions becomes inconvenient. Nightreign allows you to mark specific gestures as favourites.
- Highlight any gesture in your menu.
- Use the button shown next to Add/Remove from Favourites.
- The gesture moves to the top row and gains a small icon to mark it.
This is especially helpful for quick commands such as Wait, Point Forward, or celebrations you want ready after boss runs.
Where to Get More Emotes and Prattling Pates
New gestures are not simply earned through story progression—they are primarily purchased.

Buy New Emotes at the Small Jar Bazaar
The Small Jar Bazaar inside the Roundtable Hold sells:
- Emotes
- Gestures
- Prattling Pates (audio-based communication items)
Each emote costs 200 Murk, the currency earned from Expeditions and relic sales.
The Bazaar’s inventory expands over time, often after completing new Expeditions or defeating additional Nightlords. If you don’t see the emote you’re looking for, return after your next run.
What Prattling Pates Do
Prattling Pates are voice-based emotes that let your character speak preset lines such as:
- “Please help!”
- “Thank you.”
- “You’re beautiful.”
They function just like gestures, but with audio cues that can help teammates notice your signal even during chaotic moments.

While emotes are mostly expressive tools, a few unexpected interactions exist. One example involves the Night of the Demon relic, which ties a madness-style mechanic to the Crossed Legs gesture. Using the emote builds madness for specific niche builds.
This isn’t common, but it’s a fun reminder that Nightreign often hides playful design details where you least expect them. Play Now!
