Pinaka MK-I and Pinaka ADM Systems Successfully Tested
Pinaka Missile Systems Updates: Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and the Indian Army successfully flight-tested the Pinaka Mk-I (Enhanced) Rocket System (EPRS) and Pinaka Area Denial Munition (ADM) rocket systems at Pokhran Firing Ranges. During the previous two weeks, a total of 24 EPRS rockets were launched at various ranges. The required precision and consistency were obtained by the rockets successfully completing all testing goals. With the completion of these testing, the initial phase of EPRS technology absorption by the industry has been successfully accomplished, and industry partners are ready to go on with user trials/series production of the rocket system.
Pinaka Missile system was developed by the Armament Research and Development Establishment in Pune with assistance from the DRDO’s High Energy Materials Research Laboratory in Pune.
EPRS is an upgraded version of the Pinaka variant that has served with the Indian Army for the last decade. The system has been enhanced using sophisticated technology to increase its range in order to satisfy increasing requirements. After demonstrating the increased range version of Pinaka’s performance effectiveness, the technology was passed to two industries: Munitions India Limited (MIL) and Economic Explosives Limited Nagpur. During this campaign, rockets manufactured by MIL under a Technology Transfer Agreement with DRDO were flight tested. Numerous munitions and fuzes variations suitable for use with the Pinaka rocket system have also been successfully evaluated at the Pokhran Field Firing Range.
Dr. G Satheesh Reddy, Secretary of Defence Research and Development and Chairman of DRDO congratulated the teams for successfully completing flight trials of new design rockets based on sophisticated technology in record time.
