Microsoft is bringing People Skills directly into Microsoft Teams, making it easier for employees to identify the right colleague for a task without leaving their chat or meeting.

According to the official Microsoft 365 Roadmap, Teams users will soon see verified skills displayed on Microsoft 365 profile cards inside Teams. The rollout is scheduled to begin in March 2026, with availability for both Targeted Release and General Availability tenants worldwide .
What People Skills in Microsoft Teams Does
People Skills surfaces an employee’s expertise directly on their profile card. When you hover over a colleague’s name in Teams, you can instantly see the skills they have chosen to share, along with AI-suggested or organization-imported skills.
This change removes the guesswork from collaboration. Teams users no longer need to rely on long email threads or internal chats to find someone with the right experience.

Microsoft says the goal is simple: help employees learn about colleagues faster, build stronger connections, and manage their skills profile inside the tools they already use every day .
How Employees Can Manage Their Skills
Employees control what appears on their profile. They can open their Microsoft 365 profile card, select Update your profile, and add or remove skills from the Overview tab.
Confirmed skills appear differently from AI-generated or organization-added entries, giving teams more clarity about real expertise. Sharing settings also let users decide which skills others can see.
Once enabled, these skills appear not only in Teams but across the Microsoft 365 ecosystem, including Outlook, Office.com, SharePoint, and Copilot experiences.
Why Microsoft Is Adding This Now
Microsoft is positioning Teams as the central hub for hybrid and in-office collaboration. As more organizations balance return-to-office policies with remote work, fast access to internal expertise matters more than ever.

People Skills helps teams move quicker. Project managers can identify specialists instantly, while employees gain more visibility for their strengths without self-promotion emails or manual introductions.
The feature also integrates with tools like Org Explorer and Microsoft 365 Copilot, allowing users to search for people by skill or ask Copilot questions like “Who can help with this task?”
Rollout Timeline and Availability
Microsoft lists People Skills for Teams as In Development, with rollout starting in March 2026. The feature will support Windows and Mac clients and will be available in standard multi-tenant cloud environments .
Admins do not need to deploy a separate app, but the feature works best when employees actively maintain their skills profile.
What Teams Users Should Do Now
To get the most value from People Skills, Microsoft recommends that users review and update their Microsoft 365 profile before the rollout completes. Keeping skills accurate ensures colleagues and managers see the right expertise when planning work.
As Teams continues to evolve beyond chat and meetings, People Skills signals Microsoft’s push toward smarter, skill-based collaboration—built directly into the daily flow of work.
