How to Get Opafire Gems in Dune Awakening (Fast & Easy Guide)

In Dune: Awakening, helping out your faction is a big part of the endgame. One way to do that is by collecting Opafire Gems — rare items you can turn in to Great Houses. They’re not for crafting and don’t sell for much, but they still matter if you’re looking to support your House and earn some rewards.

Here’s a quick and simple guide on where to find Opafire Gems, how to dig them up safely, and what to do with them.

What Are Opafire Gems?

Opafire Gems are special items you’ll find in the desert. You won’t use them to make weapons or gear, and they’re not worth much if you try to sell them. But they’re important if you’re doing Landsraad missions. Some Houses will ask for them and giving them what they need helps you earn reputation and rewards.

So even though they don’t seem useful at first, they’re worth picking up if you want to get deeper into the game’s faction stuff.

Where to Find Opafire Gems

You’ll find Opafire Gems in buried treasure chests hidden in the sand. These chests show up randomly, usually out in the open desert far from rocks or cliffs. To find them, you’ll need to scan the area using one of two tools.

Use a Handheld Scanner

The Handheld Resource Scanner is something you can use on foot. It sends out a blue pulse that might ping a treasure chest. If it does, a yellow chest icon will pop up on your screen. Head over and dig it up.

You can unlock the scanner under the Iron Products section of the Exploration tab. To craft it, you’ll need:

  • 9 Iron Ingots
  • 6 EMF Generators

It works fine, but walking around in the desert is risky — especially with Sandworms nearby.

Tip: If you chose the “Locked Research” option at the start of the game, you’ll need to finish a few main missions before you can research the scanner.

Use a Vehicle Scanner

The easier and safer way to scan is by using a vehicle-mounted scanner. These can go on Sandbikes and Scout Ornithopters. Once installed, they let you zoom across the map and scan large areas much faster.

Not every vehicle works with scanners. These ones don’t:

  • Buggy
  • Assault Ornithopter
  • Carrier Ornithopter
  • Sandcrawler

When you scan from a vehicle, you’ll see a marker appear if there’s treasure nearby. A single yellow marker on open sand usually means there’s a buried chest underneath.

Warning: Even if you’re flying, don’t hover too low over the sand. Sandworms can still hear you and attack.

How to Dig Up Treasure

Once you’ve found a marked spot, land and use a Static Compactor to dig it up. There are three kinds of compactors, and all of them work:

  • Standard Static Compactor
  • Industrial Static Compactor
  • Omni Static Compactor

When you use one, a loot box will appear. It’ll usually have some Spice, vehicle parts, and sometimes Opafire Gems.

Can You Just Buy Opafire Gems?

Yep! If you don’t feel like treasure hunting, you can grab Opafire Gems from other players through the Exchange, which is the game’s marketplace. Prices can change depending on who’s selling, but it’s a good shortcut if you’ve got Solari to spend.

You can also try trading directly with other players in towns like Arrakeen. A lot of people hang around there looking to swap resources.

What Do You Use Opafire Gems For?

You’ll need Opafire Gems to complete some House Requests in the Landsraad system. These are missions posted by different factions. If you turn in the gems they ask for, you’ll earn:

  • Reputation with that House
  • Progress toward special events
  • Unique rewards tied to your faction

You can check the current requests in the Landsraad menu. They change often, so check back to see when gems are needed.

Quick Tips

  • Watch out for Sandworms – Move fast and avoid standing still in open sand.
  • Use a Scout Ornithopter – Fast, safe, and great for scanning.
  • Bring more than one Compactor – Chests can be random, and more compactors mean more chances.
  • Use online maps – Some fan-made maps show known treasure spots, making your hunt easier.

Opafire Gems may not help with crafting, but they’re super useful for players who want to get involved in the endgame and support their House. Whether you dig them up yourself or buy them from others, these gems help you level up your reputation and unlock cool rewards.

If you like exploring, helping your faction, or just checking off quests, hunting for Opafire Gems is a fun way to leave your mark on Arrakis.
