How to Start Dating NPCs

Before you can go on dates, you first need to start a romantic relationship with an NPC. Here’s how to unlock dating:

  1. Choose a Single NPC: Open your journal and look for characters marked as “single.” Only these NPCs are romance candidates.
  2. Build Hearts: Talk to your chosen NPC daily and give them gifts they like. Check your relationship progress in the Heart tab of your journal.
  3. Trigger Heart Events: Every two hearts triggers a Heart Event—a short quest or cutscene that deepens your bond.
  4. Confess at 8 Hearts: When you reach 8 Hearts, you’ll unlock a special Heart Event where you can choose the red dialogue option with a heart icon to confess your feelings. This officially starts the dating relationship.
  5. Optional Best Friend Path: If you prefer not to date, you can select the “Best Friend” dialogue option instead, keeping the bond platonic.
  6. Meet Elsie: The next morning, Elsie will visit your home to congratulate you and explain how dating works, including weekends-only rules and how to unlock dates.

How Dates Work in Fields of Mistria

Once you’ve unlocked dating in Fields of Mistria, the process of going on dates is simple, but it comes with a few important rules. Dates are limited to weekends, means you can only invite your partner out on Saturday or Sunday.

You’re also restricted to one date per partner per week. If you’re dating multiple NPCs, you can schedule one on Saturday and another on Sunday, but you cannot take the same person on two dates in the same week. Additionally, there’s currently no way to break up with an NPC, so plan carefully if you decide to pursue more than one romance at the same time.

To start a date, visit your partner on a weekend and select the “Invite On Date” option. A menu will then appear, allowing you to choose from the unlocked date types. On mornings when a date is available, the game will display a “Date Available” prompt during the calendar transition, along with the partner’s icon, so you know they’re ready for a weekend outing.

Rewards:

Each date triggers a short cutscene and rewards you with a Date Photo and a random bonus item, such as meals. Date Photos can be displayed in your house to commemorate your outings.

Tip: If you go on a date in the morning, you still have the rest of the day free for farming, mining, or town activities.

How to Unlock New Date Types

Dates aren’t all the same—you can unlock several unique Date Types using Date Inspiration Items. Elsie gives you two items to start, but more can be collected by exploring, foraging, fishing, mining, or shopping at the Saturday Market (Wheedle’s stall).

Here’s how it works:

  1. Find a Date Inspiration Item.
  2. Use it from your inventory to unlock a new Date Type.
  3. Select that date when inviting your partner on the weekend.

Duplicate Date Inspiration Items cannot be sold. Using a duplicate will simply consume it without unlocking a new date if you already have that type.
