How to Start the Heart of Gold Quest
You’ll first encounter this quest when exploring the Vyssa Plains. After entering the region, head toward the large windmill visible on the hills. Along the way you’ll pass through story-critical content, so stay focused on your main path until you hear gunfire. Follow the sound to meet Vitalis, who will give you useful items.
After this encounter, continue toward the windmill. You’ll meet the journalist Tania Alver, but your real target is a man waiting further down the path. Here, you’ll find Atticus Caddell, the surviving son of Ernest Caddell—the farmer you met at the very beginning of the game.

Speak with Atticus, and he’ll explain his camp’s desperate situation. He knows of an ON vehicle nearby that could be their escape, but the keys are missing. At this point, the Heart of Gold Good Deed officially begins.
Visiting Atticus’ Camp
Although optional, visiting Atticus’ camp adds depth to the quest and introduces more characters with their own struggles. To reach the camp:
- Return to Vitalis’ grave.
- Take the northern path uphill, past two Hollow Walkers.
- Climb a ladder to reach the camp.
Inside, you’ll meet:
- An elderly couple mourning the loss of their dog.
- A young child holding a baby.
- Diana, a young woman in need of her medication.
Diana’s medication can be found earlier in the area, inside a suitcase near Vitalis’ grave. Deliver it to her before moving on. The elderly couple will remain behind even after the others leave, so don’t worry about resolving their problem immediately.
How to Get the ON Vehicle Keys
The ON vehicle is useless without its keys, and retrieving them is more complex than simply searching abandoned cars. The keys only appear after collapsing a Timeloop near Vitalis’ grave.
Steps to Collapse the Timeloop:
- Defeat the Timeloop Guardians: There are six in total scattered across the Vyssa Plains. Use your tools to track them down.
- Acquire an Amine Prism: You’ll get your first one by visiting the Watcher’s Nest near the windmill and speaking with Gildas. He also provides a device to detect Timeloop Guardians.
- Collapse the Timeloop: After defeating all Guardians, use the Amine Prism at the Timeloop.
Once collapsed, a yellow sparkle will appear on the ground. This is the ON Vehicle Keys.
Returning the Keys to Atticus

After completing the quest, return to Gildas. He’ll reward you for collapsing the Timeloop and completing the Good Deed. Rewards are tied to the total number of Good Deeds and Timeloops you’ve completed, not to this quest alone, so your exact rewards may vary.
