Act 4 begins after completing the “Legacy of the Vaal” quest. Speak to Doryani near the Gateway in Utzaal, then return to Ziggurat Encampment. Talking to Doryani and Alva here will automatically teleport you to Kingsmarch.

Once there:

  1. Talk to Doryani and Alva to receive your next objective.
  2. Meet Rog and Makoru. Rog arranges travel, while Makoru captains the ship Aurora May. Speaking with them unlocks the full Act 4 destination map, allowing you to sail between the islands.

Whakapanu Island

Whakapanu is the best first stop because it sets up side objectives and unlocks the Shoreline Hideout.

  • Great White One – Found early on the island, this boss drops the Shark Fin quest item required for progression.
  • Diamora, Song of Death – Located within the Singing Caverns. Defeating her unlocks the Shoreline Hideout and provides your first Weapon Piece.

The Abandoned Prison

Next, head east to the prison complex. Be prepared—waves repeatedly crash into this area, slowing your movement and making fights harder.

  • Solitary Confinement – Push through enemies until you reach the Fortified Door.
  • The Prisoner – Defeat this boss to claim another Weapon Piece. Using the Ballista mechanic during this encounter is highly recommended for extra firepower.

Shrike Island

Your final island stop in this sequence is Shrike Island.

  • Scourge of the Skies – Found across a narrow bridge, this boss drops the last Weapon Piece you need for reforging.

Sailing to Arastas

With all three fragments collected, return to Makoru and set sail for Arastas.

  • Enter the church and speak with Missionary Lorandis.
  • Attack and destroy the forcefield outside to trigger an ambush. Survive the waves of enemies.
  • Continue deeper into Arastas to face Torvian, Hand of the Saviour. Defeating him grants access to The Excavation.
  • In the Excavation, follow the tunnels to a circular arena checkpoint where you’ll find Kanu. Here you battle Benedictus, First Herald of Utopia. Once he falls, the Hooded One reforges the weapon.

Keep an eye out for Temple Bells while exploring this region—they contain valuable currency.

Journey to Ngakanu

After reforging, pursue the weapon to Ngakanu. Rhodri, the ship’s cook, ferries you there, but you’ll immediately face waves of enemies upon arrival.

Ngakanu is maze-like, so hug one wall as you progress to reach the end faster. The entrance to the Heart of the Tribe is on the direct opposite side of the area.

The Heart of the Tribe

This is where Act 4’s toughest fight awaits.

  • Tavakai Boss Battle – A three-phase encounter:
    • Phase 1: Reduce Tavakai to 50% HP.
    • Phase 2: He transforms into Tavakai the Fallen and flees. Pursue him.
    • Phase 3: Tavakai returns as Tavakai the Consumed, fully healed. Evade his AoE combos and finish the fight.

After victory, the Hooded One intervenes to cure both Tavakai and Makoru.

How Act 4 Ends in Path of Exile 2

Teleport back to Kingsmarch and speak to the Hooded One to officially conclude Act 4. This transitions you into the Interludes, where the story expands even further.

Optional Bonus: Before advancing, consider visiting the Isle of Kin. Defeating the boss there rewards you with two additional passive skill points—a significant boost for any build.

  • Access to the Shoreline Hideout
  • Weapon reforging storyline completed
  • Unlocks Interlude quests

Best Strategies for Path of Exile 2 Act 4

  • Plan Your Route – The optimal order is Whakapanu → Abandoned Prison → Shrike Island.
  • Prepare for Terrain Hazards – Water slows movement in the Abandoned Prison.
  • Master Boss Mechanics – Most major bosses rely on AoE attacks. Watch the ground carefully.
  • Seek Extra Rewards – Temple Bells and Meeting Houses provide bonus loot and currency.
  • Remember Non-Linearity – Act 4 features 11 bosses across the Ngamakanui Archipelago. Yama the White, Benedictus, and Tavakai are among the most dangerous. Exploring also unlocks Eye of Hinekora and Plunder’s Point for added lore.

Act 4 in Path of Exile 2 combines challenging bosses with non-linear island progression, making it one of the most memorable parts of the campaign. With preparation, smart routing, and attention to mechanics, you’ll overcome the trials and be ready for the Interludes that dive deeper into the game’s lore.
