Exploring Pharloom in Hollow Knight: Silksong often leads Hornet into unexpected discoveries—some rewarding, others confusing. Among these discoveries is the Seeker’s Soul, an item that seems cryptic at first but plays a crucial role in unlocking Silksong’s hidden third act. This guide explains how to find the Seeker’s Soul, its purpose, and how it ties into late-game progression.

The Seeker’s Soul is a tradeable item in Silksong. It appears as a cracked shell containing remnants of a long-deceased bug’s soul. While some tradeable items in the game can be exchanged for currency like Rosaries or Shell Shards, the Seeker’s Soul has a far more important use—it is one of four components needed to unlock Act 3: The Abyss.
Until you trigger the Silk and Soul questline, the Seeker’s Soul will simply remain in your inventory, waiting for its purpose to unfold.
Where to Find the Seeker’s Soul
You can obtain the Seeker’s Soul in Bilewater, inside a deserted shell home. The location lies near the Key of Apostate area, making it possible to grab both items during the same expedition.
There are two main routes into Bilewater:
- Southern Route (via Sinner’s Road)
- Travel north through Bilewater’s lower regions.
- This path is more dangerous, featuring several waves of enemies and culminating in a boss fight against Groal the Great.
- To make matters tougher, there’s no nearby bench, meaning a death sends you back to your last rest point.
- Northern Route (via Putrified Ducts)
- This is a faster and safer option but requires the Double Jump ability.
- Because of this skill gate, you’ll only be able to access it by midgame.
Tip: Since Bilewater itself requires Double Jump for proper exploration, most players will naturally approach this area in Act 2.
How to Use the Seeker’s Soul
On its own, the Seeker’s Soul cannot be directly used in combat or crafting. Instead, it serves as one of the four vital items for the Silk and Soul Wish, a secret Wayfarer quest that unlocks Act 3.
You’ll need the following four components:
- Seeker’s Soul – found in Bilewater.
- Maiden’s Soul – acquired from the Maiden in Bone Bottom (after the Skull Tyrant event).
- Hermit’s Soul – given by the Bell Hermit hidden beneath Bellhart Bellway.
- Snare Setter – located in Weavenest Atla, accessible through the Needolin door in Bone Bottom.
Once all four are collected, deliver them to the Caretaker in Songclave. This sets the stage for a special trap against Grand Mother Silk, altering the course of the story and granting access to Act 3: Abyss.
Quick Tips
- Don’t rush into Bilewater early—wait until you’ve unlocked Double Jump to take the safer northern route.
- Keep track of your progress in the Silk and Soul Wish. It requires multiple steps, and having the Seeker’s Soul early will save time later.
- Pair your Seeker’s Soul run with the Key of Apostate to maximize efficiency.
The Seeker’s Soul may seem mysterious when first obtained, but it holds the key to Silksong’s most significant hidden content. By securing it in Bilewater and later combining it with the other souls and tools, you’ll unlock the secret Act 3: Abyss, opening up new bosses, story paths, and endings.
