To face this legendary foe and unlock the powerful Armor of the Undying, you’ll first need to track down four windchimes scattered across the region. These chimes aren’t just collectibles—they act as spiritual markers that lead you to the samurai’s hidden lair.
Once you begin the tale at Storyteller’s Rest, Ugetsu hands you the first clue: use the windchimes to trace the path of the Undying Samurai. Each chime is marked with a teal or blue cloth, and ringing them makes the guiding winds react more strongly.

All Ghost of Yotei Windchime Locations
First Windchime – Storyteller’s Rest
- Location: Directly in front of you after the initial cutscene with Ugetsu, near Masked Man’s Quarry.
- Details: A bear guards the tree holding the first chime. You can either fight it head-on or make use of your bow or bombs for a safer approach. Once the beast is down, claim the chime hanging from the tree.
Second Windchime – Stone Jaw Coast
- Location: At the top of the cliffs, just below the “ST” in “Coast” on your map.
- Details: A body is suspended from a tree here. Use your grappling hook to cut it down and recover the chime. Be careful climbing down to retrieve it, as the area is prone to wolf patrols.

Third Windchime – Rumoi River
- Location: South of the “M” in Rumoi on the map, along the riverbank.
- Details: Here you’ll encounter a lone ronin looting near a tree. Speak with him and prepare for combat. Defeat him to secure the third chime.
Fourth Windchime – North of Nakagoya Spring
- Location: Slightly north of the spring, just above the “KA” in Nakagoya on your map.
- Details: Look for a bent tree on a rocky outcrop. The final chime is perched here, completing the set.
Where to Find the Undying Samurai
With all four windchimes in your possession, the guiding wind will lead you toward a cliffside overlooking the northwest Ishikari coastline.
- Path to the lair:
- Slide down the rock face.
- Squeeze through a narrow gap into a cave system.
- Follow the winding path past loot boxes, beams, and crawlspaces until you reach a hidden bay filled with dozens of chimes swaying in unison.
Here, you’ll place each of the four collected chimes on wooden posts. Their song will summon the Undying Samurai, and a cinematic duel begins.
Reward: Armor of the Undying
Defeating the samurai earns you the Armor of the Undying, one of the strongest early-game armor sets. Its perks shine when you’re weapon-aligned with enemies:
- Restores health on successful staggers.
