Disaster at Lake Hamana Nioh 3 Guide: How to Calm Daidara Bocchi

The Disaster at Lake Hamana Myth is one of the most intense early progression events in Nioh 3. A massive yokai, Daidara Bocchi, blocks safe exploration of Lake Hamana and relentlessly attacks the area. You cannot defeat this enemy through combat. Instead, you must reseal it by completing a specific myth objective tied to Horie Castle.

This guide explains exactly how to trigger the myth, reach the correct location, retrieve the sealing item, and calm Daidara Bocchi step by step—without unnecessary detours.

How to Trigger Disaster at Lake Hamana Myth

The myth activates automatically the first time you enter Lake Hamana.

  • Daidara Bocchi rises from the lake and begins attacking the area.
  • Nekomata appears and warns you that the yokai is too dangerous to fight directly.
  • The game tasks you with finding a way to calm and seal Daidara Bocchi.

From this moment onward, Lake Hamana remains under constant threat until you complete the myth.

How to Reach Horie Castle Safely

From the lake entrance, your goal is to reach Horie Castle, which holds the shrine used to seal Daidara Bocchi.

  • Head right from the starting point.
  • Move forward toward the distant archway leading to the castle.
  • Use large rocks and golden crater formations as temporary cover.
  • Keep moving. Daidara Bocchi destroys cover if you stay still too long.
  • Ignore minor enemies when possible, as Daidara Bocchi’s attacks can eliminate them for you.

Once you pass between two tall rock formations, the hidden archway to Horie Castle becomes visible.

Activate the Shrine and Prepare Inside Horie Castle

After entering the castle grounds:

  • Activate the Shrine immediately.
  • Clear nearby enemies so they do not follow you deeper inside.
  • Proceed into the ruined structure and descend toward the docks.
  • Defeat the yokai guarding the lower level.
  • Move upstairs and activate the next Shrine.

This is a critical preparation point. Level up, manage gear, and stock items before advancing.

Unlock the Shortcut and Hot Spring

From the inner Shrine:

  • Turn left (the forward door is locked).
  • Defeat the large yokai blocking the building entrance.
  • Inside the structure:
    • Use the Hot Spring if needed to recover.
    • Turn around and unlock the shortcut leading back to the Shrine.

This shortcut saves time if you fail upcoming fights.

Break the Crucible and Retrieve the Shrine’s Keystone

Beyond the shortcut area:

  • Defeat the stronger yokai feeding on a corpse.
  • Proceed upstairs to an empty pedestal.
  • Interact with the nearby body to learn about the Shrine’s Keystone.
  • Head left and approach the Lesser Crucible.
  • Defeat all enemy waves guarding the Crucible.
  • Destroy the Crucible to reveal the Keystone at the top of the stairs.

Pick up the Keystone once the area is clear.

With the Keystone in hand:

  • Walk all the way back to the empty pedestal.
  • Place the Keystone into its slot.

Once placed, Daidara Bocchi immediately stops attacking, sinks back into Lake Hamana, and becomes fully sealed. The myth ends instantly.
