Mementos are powerful story-linked items in Disney Dreamlight Valley. You don’t find them in random chests or biomes. The game awards every Memento through specific character quests and friendship milestones. If you want all of them, you must progress carefully through the right characters and story beats.

Mementos in Disney Dreamlight Valley
Mementos represent sealed memories tied to the Valley’s past. Once you obtain any Memento, the game unlocks a special story quest with Merlin that explains their deeper role. While Mementos don’t unlock powers yet, the developers clearly position them as future-critical items.
You should collect and keep every Memento for future quests.
All Mementos and How to Unlock Them
There are five Mementos currently available in the game. Each one comes from a different character or realm quest.
Secret Journal (Jasmine)
You receive the Secret Journal by completing Jasmine’s final friendship quest.

Requirements:
- Unlock Jasmine
- Reach Friendship Level 10
- Complete all previous Jasmine quests
- Finish the quest “Wild Wild Wishes”
Although you encounter the journal earlier, the game only awards it after the final quest step. Once you complete it, the Secret Journal permanently enters your inventory as a Memento.
Kaleidoscope (Alice)
The Kaleidoscope comes from Alice’s story arc and connects directly to her Wonderland-themed quests.

How to get it:
- Unlock Alice
- Progress through her friendship quests
- Complete her final quest, “A Very Merry Unbirthday”
You see the Kaleidoscope earlier in the storyline, but the game only grants it as a Memento after you finish her last quest.
Birthday Party Invitation (Beauty and the Beast Realm)
This Memento is tied to the Beauty and the Beast realm rather than friendship levels.

Steps:
- Enter the Beauty and the Beast realm
- Complete the quest “A Guide to Better Castle-Keeping”
Once the quest ends, the Birthday Party Invitation automatically becomes a Memento in your inventory.
Nostalgic Instant Photos (Cinderella)
Cinderella’s Memento focuses on memory and celebration.

How to unlock it:
- Unlock Cinderella
- Reach Friendship Level 10
- Complete her final quest, “The Friendship Ball”
After finishing the quest, the Nostalgic Instant Photos unlock as a permanent Memento.
New Comfort Bear (Joy & Sadness)
This Memento works differently from the others.
Requirements:
- Unlock both Joy and Sadness
- Invite them to the Valley
- Focus on Sadness’s friendship path
- Reach Friendship Level 10 with Sadness
- Complete the quest “Create a Bear”
The New Comfort Bear becomes a placeable furniture item, not a pocket item. Even though it looks like décor, the game still classifies it as a Memento.
You must complete both Joy and Sadness questlines to unlock it.
How to Unlock the Memento Story Quest
Once you collect any one Memento, the game automatically triggers a story quest with Merlin called “The Memento.”
What happens:
- Talk to Merlin
- Show him the Memento you obtained
- Learn the lore behind sealed memories and your role as the Valley’s ruler
Merlin instructs you to keep all Mementos safe because you will likely need them in future updates.
Will Mementos Be Used Later?
Gameloft has already hinted that Mementos may play a role in upcoming story updates. While no current quest consumes them, the game strongly suggests they will unlock future content.
