How to Evolve Ammo Appalate in Vampire Survivors and Unlock Gunastrophe

Ammo Appalate is one of the most powerful — and trickiest — firearms you can wield in Vampire Survivors. It’s the starting weapon of Zi’Appunta Belpaese, and when mastered, it turns into the devastating Gunastrophe. However, evolving it takes more than just leveling up. Here’s how to unlock, upgrade, and evolve the weapon step by step.

Before you can think about evolution, you first need to unlock the weapon itself. Ammo Appalate is not available by default — you must defeat 251,096 ranged (shooting) enemies to unlock it. This achievement is unique to this weapon and reflects its late-game challenge. Once completed, Ammo Appalate becomes available in your runs.

How Ammo Appalate Works

Ammo Appalate behaves differently from most projectile weapons. It fires small bursts of bullets in the direction your character is facing, automatically targeting the nearest enemy. If there are no enemies within range, it stores ammo, releasing the built-up shots once new enemies approach.

By default, the weapon:

• Deals 5 base damage
• Fires every 2 seconds
• Has 100% base area and speed
• Shoots three projectiles, piercing one enemy per shot
  At its max level (8), Ammo Appalate gains:
• +6 base damage
• +20% area
• +5 projectiles
• +6 pierce

Because it ignores duration modifiers, passive items that boost cooldown, speed, and projectile count work best.

How to Evolve Ammo Appalate into Gunastrophe

To evolve Ammo Appalate into its final form, Gunastrophe, follow these steps carefully:

1. Level up Ammo Appalate to level 8.
   • You’ll need to prioritize upgrades that improve its base damage, pierce, and projectile count as you level.
2. Obtain the Bracer passive item.
   • The Bracer is mandatory — it enhances projectile speed and serves as the evolution catalyst for Ammo Appalate.
3. Max out the Bracer.
   • Both the weapon and the Bracer must reach their maximum levels for the evolution to be possible.
4. Defeat a boss that drops a treasure chest.
   • After the 10-minute mark (in most stages), bosses drop chests capable of granting evolutions. Open one once the above conditions are met.
5. Collect the evolved form — Gunastrophe.
   • Once evolved, Ammo Appalate transforms into Gunastrophe, a high-impact upgrade with enhanced fire rate, range, and destructive potential.
   • Evolving it also permanently unlocks Zi’Appunta Belpaese as a playable character.

Recommended Passives and Arcanas

While evolving Ammo Appalate only requires the Bracer, pairing it with synergistic passives and Arcanas can unleash its full potential.

Best Passive Items:

• Spinach – boosts overall Might, directly increasing bullet damage.
• Duplicator – adds extra projectiles, maximizing burst output.
• Candelabrador – expands Area, improving bullet spread.
• Empty Tome – shortens cooldowns, increasing total fire rate.

Best Arcanas:

• Slash (XVI): adds a chance for critical hits, dealing 4x damage.
• Heart of Fire (XIX): makes bullets explode on impact for massive area damage.
