How to Beat Loom in R.E.P.O. Without Getting Caught

The Loom is one of the most terrifying additions in R.E.P.O.’s Monster Update (v0.3.0) — a ghost-like entity with an unnaturally wide grin, tall frame, and a relentless drive to hunt its target. Understanding how it behaves and how to counter it is key to surviving any run where this creature spawns.

Loom’s Movement, Tracking, and Attack Patterns

From the moment you load into a level, the Loom knows exactly where you are. Unlike other monsters that rely on line-of-sight or sound, this entity tracks your position continuously. She walks toward her chosen victim at a steady pace and can only focus on one player at a time — unless provoked.

Target Signs

If you see shadowy hands closing in on your screen, that’s the signal you’re next on her list. This visual cue only appears for the targeted semibot at the start of a round (or for solo players). Once she finishes an attack — successful or not — she switches targets automatically.

The Clap Attack

Loom’s only offensive move is her clap, where her enormous hands slam together to crush her prey.

  • Damage: 100 HP (can one-shot an unupgraded player)
  • Cooldown: Resets after each attempt or when she switches targets
  • Counter: You can evade this attack by sprinting at full stamina right before the animation finishes

Because the clap has limited range, staying just out of reach or using elevation is often the best defense.

Why Hiding Doesn’t Work

Traditional hiding spots are useless. Loom ignores line-of-sight barriers and can even invade your truck if you try to AFK there. She ducks under doorways and extends her arms to drag players from tight spaces. Since she never loses track of your position, stealth tactics that work on Robe or Trudge will not help here.

Loom’s Docile State

If the Loom fails to kill you after five consecutive attempts, she temporarily retreats into a docile phase.

  • You’ll recognize this by her hunched posture and shortened arms.
  • In this state, she flees to the farthest area on the map and avoids direct combat.
However, if you provoke her during this phase, she’ll instantly reset into her aggressive mode again.

This is rare in multiplayer matches but can occasionally save solo players.

Weapons and Tools to Counter Loom

Since avoidance alone won’t cut it, you’ll need proper gear and strategy. Below are the best options to bring when Loom spawns.

1. High-Damage Firearms

  • Handgun (7 bullets) or Shotgun can quickly neutralize her.
  • Larger weapons such as the C.A.R.T. Cannon or Laser are extremely effective because of her hitbox size.

2. Stun Weapons

  • Use the Tranq Gun or Baseball Bat to temporarily stun her.
  • During the stun window, push her into death pits or environmental hazards before her Overcharge activates.

3. Environment and Mobility

  • Elevation is Loom’s biggest weakness. Her clap cannot reach players positioned higher than her head.
  • Use Tumble Climb, Double Jump, or explosive boosts (like Cauldrons) to reach high points such as bookshelves, balconies, or vents.
  • Maps like Headman Manor, McJannek, or Museum have many vertical escape routes.

4. Health Upgrades

Before taking her on, make sure to upgrade your health at least twice. This allows you to survive a direct clap attack with minimal HP. Never crouch or Tumble Launch near her, as these actions reduce your evasion time.

Tactics Summary

StrategyDescriptionRisk Level

Use elevationStay above her reach using furniture or ledges.Very Low
Weapon burstFocus heavy damage quickly with shotgun or cannon.Medium
Avoid hidingShe always knows your position — hiding wastes time.High

Playing Solo vs. Co-Op

  • Solo: Loom will pursue you until she either kills you or exhausts her attack attempts. Learn to loop around tall structures and exploit her tracking path.
  • Co-Op: Communicate with teammates. When she switches targets after a failed clap, use that window to revive downed allies or reposition. Play Now!

Tips for Survival

  1. Always scan the area for climbable surfaces when you hear her approach.
  2. Save stamina exclusively for her attack phase — sprinting too early guarantees failure.
  3. If she becomes docile, don’t chase or provoke her — treat it as a breather.
  4. Use stuns and ranged weapons, never melee her directly.
  5. Remember: Height equals safety — if she can’t reach you, she can’t kill you.
