The Epic Games Store has finally added a proper gifting system, making it easier than ever to surprise a friend with a new title. Whether you want to share a favorite release, send someone a bundle, or schedule a gift for a special day, the storefront now supports a clean, simple workflow that feels long overdue.

Can You Gift Games on Epic Games Store?
Yes. The Epic Games Store now supports direct game gifting. As long as the recipient is on your Epic friends list, you can buy and send select content directly to their account.
It covers:
- Paid games
- Different editions of a game
- Eligible bundles
- Durable add-ons
However, some items cannot be gifted. These include:
- Free titles
- Pre-purchase offers
- Subscriptions
- In-game currency and other consumables
These restrictions line up with what Epic confirmed during the feature rollout.
How the Gifting System Works
Epic’s gifting feature is built into each game’s store page. Once you choose a title, you can select a friend, add a message, and either send the gift instantly or schedule it to go out on a specific date.

Every gift includes a 14-day window for the recipient to accept or decline. If the person already owns the game—or rejects the gift—you’ll automatically receive a refund.
The process feels similar to Steam’s long-running gift system, but with a more streamlined checkout flow.
How to Gift a Game on Epic Games Store
Here’s a clear step-by-step walkthrough of the full process:
1. Log in to the Epic Games Store
Open the Epic Games Launcher or use the web storefront and sign in to your account.

2. Open the Game Page
Navigate to the title you want to send. Look for the Gift button located under the standard purchase option.
(This is the same location where Epic places “Buy Now,” as shown in the interface screenshots.)
3. Select “Buy as a Gift”
Clicking Gift opens a menu where you’ll choose a recipient from your Epic friends list.
4. Choose the Recipient
Search for your friend’s name. Gifting only works if they are listed as an Epic friend.
5. Add a Message
Epic provides a short list of preset messages to attach to the gift. Select one that fits the moment.
6. Send Now or Schedule
You can deliver the gift immediately or pick a specific date for it to arrive.
Scheduling is built directly into the checkout window.
7. Complete Payment
Finish the transaction like any other store purchase. Epic will process it and notify the recipient.
From this point, your friend has two weeks to accept the gift. If they already own the game, Epic automatically reverses the purchase.
What Happens After You Send a Gift?
- The recipient gets a notification in the Epic Games Launcher and via email.
- They must choose to Accept or Decline within 14 days.
- If they already own the game, the system rejects the gift automatically.
- If they decline, you receive a full refund.
The entire loop is automated, so you don’t need to track anything manually.
What You Can’t Gift (Important Limitations)
Before you purchase a gift, keep these limitations in mind:
- Free weekly games are excluded
- In-game currency (V-Bucks, etc.) cannot be gifted
- Pre-purchase games don’t support gifting
- Subscription services are not eligible
These rules match Epic’s official gifting rollout details.

Gifting has been one of the most requested features on the Epic Games Store since its launch in 2018. Titles like Fortnite, ARC Raiders, and Battlefield 6 pull in huge communities, and Epic’s storefront is now mature enough that sharing games directly with friends finally feels natural.
With major 2025 releases rolling in—from Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 to Kingdom Come Deliverance 2—adding gifting at the right time makes the ecosystem feel more complete.
