How to Re-Roll Duties in Disney Dreamlight Valley Guide

Duties are a core part of daily progression in Disney Dreamlight Valley, especially if you want a steady flow of Dreamlight or you’re aiming to clear tasks tied to the Mist, Storybook, or Dreamlight pages. But not every duty fits your play session. Some take too long, some require a biome you aren’t visiting, and others simply don’t match what you want to do right now.

Thanks to the Winter Ball update, you no longer need to settle for duties you don’t want. The game now lets you re-roll certain missions, giving you much more control over your progression.

How Duty Re-Rolling Works

Re-rolling lets you replace a current duty with a new, randomly selected one. This is useful when a task is inconvenient or when you want faster completion cycles to farm Dreamlight.

To re-roll a duty:

  1. Open the Dreamlight Duties page.
  2. Look for the circular two-arrow icon next to the list of available duties.
  3. Select it to instantly swap the chosen duty for a new one—as long as you have a re-roll token available.

The new duty appears immediately, and you can complete it normally to earn Dreamlight.

Which Duties Can Be Re-Rolled?

Not every task in the Valley supports re-rolling. Only specific duty categories work with this feature:

Duties You Can Re-Roll

  • Dreamlight Duties (main duties)
  • Mist Duties
  • Storybook Duties

These categories are part of the permanent duty system and fully support the new re-roll mechanic.

Duties You Cannot Re-Roll

These task types are fixed and cannot be replaced:

  • Routine Duties in seasonal Star Paths
  • Regular Star Path Duties (such as Winter Warmth)
  • Mining, Foraging, and other activity-specific pages
  • Event-limited duties like Witchful Thinking or Retro Roadtrip tasks

If the duty is tied to a seasonal event or a special reward track, the game locks it into place. Only your permanent duty list allows rerolling.

How to Unlock the Re-Roll Feature

You won’t see the re-roll button the moment you start playing. The feature unlocks only after you’ve completed several Dreamlight Duties.

Players report unlocking it after finishing 5–10 duties.
Once triggered, a pop-up appears, and the game grants your first three re-roll tokens for free.

After that, you earn more by completing duties.

How to Earn Re-Roll Tokens

Re-roll tokens are granted automatically whenever you finish a Dreamlight Duty, but they follow specific rules:

  • You can hold up to three tokens at a time.
  • Completing a duty only awards a token if you have fewer than three.
  • Every duty completed awards one token, not more.

So if you spend all your tokens, you must complete three duties to replenish them.

How Many Duties Can You Skip?

You can re-roll duties up to three times in a row—once for each token you have. There is no cooldown, meaning you can re-roll continuously as long as you keep earning tokens.

In practice, this lets you skip an unlimited number of duties, as long as you punctuate re-rolls with actual completions.

Pro Tips for Players

  • Save re-rolls for biome-specific tasks you don’t want to travel for.
  • Re-roll until you get low-effort duties like fishing, cooking a simple meal, or removing Night Thorns.
  • Use re-rolls strategically when farming Dreamlight, especially if you’re preparing for large cosmetic purchases or castle unlocks.
  • Avoid re-rolling during Star Paths—event duties cannot be changed, so tokens won’t help there.

The duty re-roll feature is one of the most player-friendly additions to Disney Dreamlight Valley. Whether you’re aiming to maximize Dreamlight, streamline your daily routine, or skip chores you’d rather not handle, re-rolling gives you the flexibility the game previously lacked. With only a few completed duties, you’ll unlock the mechanic and gain the freedom to shape your own task list.
