Hytale now supports Linux with a native launcher, which means you no longer need Wine or Proton to play the game on Linux Mint. If you already run games like Minecraft or Blasphemous natively, Hytale works the same way using a Flatpak package.

What You Need Before Installing Hytale
Make sure your system meets these basic requirements:
- Linux Mint 20+ (64-bit)
- Flatpak enabled (Mint ships with Flatpak by default)
- Updated graphics drivers (NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel)
- Stable internet connection
- At least 10 GB free disk space
If you installed apps from the Mint Software Manager before, Flatpak already works on your system.
Step 1 – Download the Official Linux Launcher

- Open your browser and go to:
https://hytale.com/download - Scroll down until you see:
“Looking to download for a different platform?” - Click Linux.
- Download the file:
hytale-launcher-latest.flatpak
This file contains the official native Linux launcher. You do not need any cracked builds or third-party installers.

Step 2 – Install the Flatpak Package
You can install the launcher using either the graphical installer or the terminal.
Method A – Install Using Software Manager (Recommended)
- Open your Downloads folder.
- Double-click
hytale-launcher-latest.flatpak. - Linux Mint Software Manager opens automatically.
- Click Install.
- Wait for installation to finish.
After installation, Mint adds the launcher to your applications menu.
Method B – Install Using Terminal
If double-click does not open the installer:
- Right-click inside the Downloads folder.
- Select Open in Terminal.
- Run this command:
flatpak install --user hytale-launcher-latest.flatpak
- Confirm the installation when prompted.
Step 3 – Launch Hytale
- Open the Start Menu.
- Search for Hytale Launcher.
- Click to launch.
- Log in with your Hytale account.
- Download the game files inside the launcher.
- Click Play once the download finishes.
The game runs natively on Linux without any compatibility layers.
Do You Need Wine or Proton?
No. The Flatpak package provides a native Linux launcher.
Use Wine or Proton only if:
- The native launcher fails on your hardware.
- You intentionally want to test the Windows version.
For most Linux Mint users, native Flatpak delivers better stability and performance.
How to Confirm Flatpak Is Installed on Linux Mint
Open Terminal and run:
flatpak --version
If the command shows a version number, Flatpak works correctly.
If Flatpak is missing, install it using:
sudo apt install flatpak
Restart your system after installation.

You can run Hytale natively on Linux Mint with no compatibility tools. Flatpak keeps the launcher isolated and secure while maintaining stable performance across distributions.
Once installed, Hytale behaves like any other native Linux game.
