The next chapter of Marvel Rivals is shaping up to be one of its most exciting yet. Season 5, officially launching on November 14, 2025, dives deep into a romantic theme titled “Love Is a Battlefield.” The update introduces two long-awaited X-Men—Gambit and Rogue—alongside sweeping gameplay changes, a massive new mode, and cross-progression between platforms.
A Love Story in Battle: Gambit and Rogue Arrive
Two of the most iconic mutants in the Marvel universe are taking center stage this season.

Gambit, the kinetic card-flinging Strategist, headlines the launch. His playstyle focuses on charged energy attacks and team utility—his cards can heal allies, deal explosive damage, or inflict anti-heal effects on enemies. His Ultimate, Ace of Hearts, powers up nearby teammates’ jumps and enhances their attacks for a brief period, adding both flair and coordination potential to team fights.

Rogue, known for her power-absorbing abilities, joins the roster in the Season 5.5 update, expected in December. She’s rumored to be a Vanguard, capable of borrowing the abilities of other heroes mid-battle. Her arrival marks a first for the game—a hero who can temporarily mirror the powers of others, creating new layers of strategy and counterplay.
New 18v18 Game Mode – Conquest (Annihilation)
Season 5 introduces Conquest (Annihilation), a large-scale 18-versus-18 battlefield debuting on November 27.
The mode unfolds across the Grand Garden map, where massive team fights and objective control define the flow of play. It’s designed to push coordination and chaos to new extremes—perfect for squads looking for epic-scale combat.
Major Hero Buffs and Adjustments
Several heroes are receiving tuning adjustments to refine balance and playstyle feel:
Vanguard Buffs
- The Thing and Hulk see improved survivability.
- Peni Parker’s teammates can now heal while in her webs.
- Captain America’s Ultimate now charges allies’ ultimates faster.
Duelist Buffs
- Wolverine and Spider-Man get smoother and more consistent combos.
Strategist Buffs
- Loki and Cloak & Dagger gain slightly higher survivability.
New and Updated Team-Up Abilities
Season 5 expands on the cooperative “Team-Up” system with three fresh combinations and a few retirements:
New Team-Ups
- Explosive Entanglement – Gambit (anchor) + Magneto: Launches a greatsword projectile imbued with kinetic energy.
- Sword of Duality – Cloak & Dagger (anchor) + Hawkeye: Fuses light and dark energy into Hawkeye’s blade, knocking back enemies while healing allies.
- Blade of Khonshu – Moon Knight (anchor) + Blade: Allows Blade to dash through enemies, finishing with a flurry of sword strikes and a moonblade projectile.
Adjusted Team-Ups
- Lunar Force and Operation: Microchip are retired.
- Magneto and Hawkeye are removed from existing Team-Ups.
- Black Widow joins Phoenix and Wolverine in Primal Flame, empowering her bullets with healing effects.
Competitive System Overhaul: Placement Matches
Season 5 introduces 10 placement matches at the start of each Competitive season.
Your initial rank will now be determined by your previous season’s performance, with matchmaking restrictions limiting top-tier players (Celestial, Eternity, Top 500) to two-player queues for balance.
New Map: Times Square Social Hub
Beyond combat, Season 5 adds a non-combat map—Times Square, a social hub accommodating up to 100 players. It’s a peaceful space where fans can meet, emote, and celebrate events together, reinforcing Marvel Rivals’ growing community focus.
First Anniversary Celebration
December marks Marvel Rivals’ one-year anniversary, bringing free and premium rewards. Players logging in can claim 2,500 Units and a Legendary “Business Jeff” skin for Jeff the Land Shark.
Additional purchasable anniversary outfits include new looks for Magik, Mister Fantastic, Luna Snow, Psylocke, and Venom.
Cross-Progression Launches
After a successful test phase in Season 4.5, cross-progression officially launches. Players can now maintain their unlocked skins, levels, and cosmetics across PC and console, unifying progression under a single account.
New Accessories and Customization Options
Fresh accessories are coming for Gambit, Human Torch, Magik, Mantis, Wolverine, Phoenix, Thor, Loki, Moon Knight, and Star-Lord. These additions expand hero personalization, letting players mix attachments to match their favorite loadouts and aesthetics.
PvE Expansion on the Horizon
Following the success of the Marvel Zombies mode, developers confirmed that “more heroes, maps, and themes” are in development for future PvE experiences. While no dates are set, fans can expect the narrative side of Marvel Rivals to grow significantly in 2026.
