Shin Megami Tensei V Vengeance: Everything You Need to Know About the Upgraded Version of the Hit RPG

In 2021, the gaming world was introduced to Shin Megami Tensei V, an exclusive title for Nintendo Switch. Fast forward to now, and Atlus, the game’s developer, has announced an upgraded version of this popular game, aptly named Shin Megami Tensei V Vengeance. This new edition is not just a simple re-release; it brings several enhancements and a fresh take on the original storyline.

Vengeance stands out from its predecessor in many ways. The game introduces unique skills for each demon, reminiscent of the Persona Traits from Persona 5 Royal. Over 30 new demons are available for recruitment, including the Nahobiho, a Jack Frost-inspired demon modeled after the game’s protagonist, the Nahobino. This demon possesses an exclusive attack, adding a new layer of strategy to battles.

The game also allows for more flexible skill distribution and stat reallocation for the Nahobino. The level cap has been increased from 99 to 150, providing more room for character growth. All DLC from the original release (excluding the Mitama DLC) is included from the start, and players can now save their progress anywhere on the map.

A New Storyline: Canon of Vengeance

Vengeance introduces a new storyline route, “Canon of Vengeance.” While it starts similarly to the original game, it diverges significantly after the midway point. This new route introduces new boss enemies and a new character, Yoko Hiromine, who assists the Nahobino. These additions embody ideas that didn’t make it into the original game, such as the Snake God in the Canon of Vengeance seeking revenge for the oppressed.

Platform Availability

Unlike the original release, which was exclusive to the Nintendo Switch, Shin Megami Tensei V Vengeance will be available on multiple platforms. Gamers can look forward to playing it on the Nintendo Switch, Sony PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Microsoft Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows starting June 21, 2024.

2024 is shaping up to be a busy year for Atlus. Alongside Shin Megami Tensei V Vengeance, Atlus has released Persona 3 Reload, a remake of the classic PlayStation 2 game, Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3.

Later in the year, Atlus plans to release Metaphor: ReFantazio, a new RPG unrelated to Shin Megami Tensei or Persona. This new game will incorporate social simulation aspects, much like the successful Persona 5 and Persona 5 Royal. Metaphor: ReFantazio is expected to be released for PS4, PS5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S in late 2024.

Shin Megami Tensei V Vengeance promises to be a definitive version of the game, offering new content and improvements that will surely excite both new players and fans of the original. With its expanded storyline, enhanced gameplay, and multi-platform availability, it’s a title to watch out for in 2024.
