HISTORY
AIIMS (New Delhi) was Constituted in 1956 and Regularized by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences Act, 1956. After that Prime Minister of India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s first proposal to establish the institute in Calcutta was rejected by the Chief Minister of West Bengal Bidhan Chandra Roy.
Dr. Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences announced after the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. And it was started on the 10th of March 1967 to offer patient care, spread out human resources for medical education and undertake research to discover solutions to eye health problems.
The Centre was a part of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, wherein it keeps on the fullest autonomy, while without change it within the mainstream of medical education and health care.
