Twitter Launches TweetDeck 2.0 with Enhanced Features and Twitter Blue Subscription Requirements

In a move to address recent issues and improve user experience, Twitter has rolled out the highly anticipated TweetDeck 2.0 on July 3, 2023. This move comes after some users encountered issues with the previous version due to rate limits imposed by Twitter to prevent data scraping.

The updated version of the web app introduces several new features while also implementing changes to access requirements.

TweetDeck is a popular web application that allows users to manage multiple Twitter accounts, customize timelines, perform searches, and more. The new TweetDeck 2.0 brings new features where users can easily compose and publish tweets directly from the app.

• Updated TweetDeck 2.0 integrates of Spaces enables users to join and participate in Twitter’s live audio conversations seamlessly.
• Video docking, another feature introduced in the new version, allows users to view videos without interruption while navigating through other sections of the app.
• Polls, enables users to create and participate in interactive surveys and gather opinions from their followers.

However, the Teams feature which enables users to share account access without sharing passwords, is temporarily unavailable in the updated version (TweetDeck 2.0).

To access the new version of TweetDeck, users can select “Try the new TweetDeck” from the bottom left menu of the web app. All saved searches, workflows, lists, and columns from the previous version will be automatically transferred to the updated version, ensuring a smooth transition.

Twitter has announced that in 30 days, access to TweetDeck will be limited to verified users. This means only Twitter Blue subscribers, verified organizations, and a select group of users who got free blue tick verification by Twitter will be able to continue using TweetDeck.

Twitter Blue is a paid subscription service that offers exclusive features, like undo tweets, create bookmark folders, and access a reader mode. This move aligns with Twitter CEO Elon Musk’s strategy to enhance user verification and encourage the adoption of premium services.

While the launch of TweetDeck 2.0 has been confirmed, the app still carries the label “TweetDeck Preview” within its interface. However, a Twitter employee hinted that the transition to the new version will likely be permanent, with all users eventually being migrated to the updated platform.

Although Twitter has not officially announced the retirement of the previous version, users are advised to prepare for the eventual shift to TweetDeck 2.0 updated version soon.
