Bandits patrol the roads, wildlife reacts aggressively, and the terrain stretches far across regions. A horse isn’t just a convenience—it becomes your primary way to move safely and efficiently through the world.
All Ways to Get a Horse in Where Winds Meet
Players can obtain a horse through three core methods:
- Steal a mount from an NPC
- Capture and tame a wild horse
- Buy a horse from merchants or the in-game shop
Each approach has its own difficulty level, risks, and advantages. Let’s break them down.
1. Steal a Horse from an NPC (Fastest Method)
If you want a mount immediately, the quickest method is simply taking one from a horseback NPC. Whenever you encounter someone riding, move close enough to their horse to see the Snatch Horse prompt. Triggering it instantly mounts you on their steed.
This method becomes especially obvious during the early main-story quest “A Horse Neighs in the Forest,” where two mounted NPCs appear and can be robbed on the spot.
Things to Keep in Mind:
- NPCs will turn hostile after theft and may chase or attack you.
- If you create enough distance, the horse becomes fully yours.
- Stolen horses can later be sold, making this both a mobility upgrade and a money-making trick.
For new players, this is by far the easiest way to secure a mount early in the game.
2. Capture and Tame a Wild Horse
Wild horses occasionally roam open fields, though they are rare and extremely skittish. When you find one, you must approach quietly from behind to activate the Capture Horse option.
Once mounted, the game triggers a fast-paced taming minigame that requires hitting directional inputs as icons appear on screen. Failing the sequence ejects you instantly, and you must try again or find another horse.
Tips for success:
- Using stealth abilities like Veil of Stillness helps you get close without alarming the animal.
- Some wild horse gatherings appear near water sources, such as ponds or ranches.
- Successfully tamed horses can also be sold to Wen Pu in Finesteed Hamlet for profit.
3. Buy a Horse from Merchants or the Shop
If you want guaranteed access to a mount—without relying on luck or thievery—you can buy one directly.
There are two purchasing routes:
• In-Game Shop
Open the main menu, select Shop, head to Appearance, then pick the mounts section. You’ll find a wide selection of horses and even non-traditional mounts such as big cats. These require either in-game currency or real money.
• Horse Merchants
You can also find mount vendors in settlements such as Wildmane Ranch. These merchants sell horses at varying prices depending on rarity and appearance.
Buying a horse is the most straightforward approach, but also the least accessible early in the game if you haven’t earned enough resources.
How to Summon, View, and Manage Mounts
