Apple is preparing its most significant Siri upgrade in years, and Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has now laid out a detailed rollout schedule that shows how quickly the company plans to modernize its voice assistant.
According to Gurman, Apple will introduce the first public version of its Gemini-powered Siri next month through an iOS 26.4 developer beta. The update will then move into a public beta before reaching all iPhone users. Apple may also hold a small event to highlight the long-delayed features it originally previewed in mid-2024.
Gemini Becomes Siri’s New Brain
Apple built the new Siri using what it calls Apple Foundation Models version 10, which runs on Google’s Gemini backend. Gurman reports the model contains nearly 1.2 trillion parameters and operates on Apple’s Private Cloud Compute infrastructure. This move signals a major shift for Apple, which has traditionally relied on in-house AI systems rather than external platforms.

The Gemini integration aims to improve Siri’s reasoning, contextual awareness, and conversational responses. Apple wants the assistant to better understand on-screen content, handle more complex requests, and deliver faster, more natural replies.
Full Siri Overhaul Coming in iOS 27
While the iOS 26.4 update delivers the first Gemini-backed improvements, Gurman says Apple is already working on a complete Siri rebuild internally under the codename “Campos.” This next-generation version will arrive with iOS 27 and other Apple platform updates.
Apple plans to preview the redesigned Siri at WWDC 2026 before shipping it publicly in September. The assistant will feature a new interface and rebuilt architecture designed to support continuous, back-and-forth conversations similar to modern AI chatbots like ChatGPT and Claude.

This future version will run on Apple Foundation Models version 11, which Gurman says should compete directly with Gemini 3 in performance and capability. Apple is also evaluating whether some workloads should run on Google’s AI infrastructure instead of its own cloud systems.
Safari and App Integrations Also in Motion
Beyond Siri, Apple is exploring an AI-focused redesign of its Safari browser to compete with emerging AI browsers such as Perplexity Comet and ChatGPT Atlas. Gurman notes that this project is currently paused as Apple prioritizes Siri’s transition, but the company may still reveal early progress at WWDC.

Apple is also testing deeper AI integrations across apps including Calendar, TV, Health, Music, and Podcasts. Instead of building separate chatbot interfaces for each app, Apple may rely on Siri as the unified AI layer across the ecosystem.
HomePod Delays May Finally Ease
Siri’s slow progress has repeatedly delayed Apple’s next-generation HomePod and smart display projects. Gurman reports that Apple is now testing three different versions of these devices alongside related smart home hardware. However, the company has not confirmed when the first model will reach consumers.
For Apple, this transition represents more than a feature upgrade — it signals a broader shift toward AI-first platforms across iPhone, iPad, Mac, and future smart devices.
