The VCR-2 is one of the strongest assault rifles in Battlefield 6 right now. It sits at META tier and ranks third in close-range performance, with a 200ms TTK that competes with virtually every weapon in its class. If you want to dominate Season 3 lobbies, this is the rifle to run.

This guide covers every recommended VCR-2 loadout, how to read the stats, and exactly how to unlock the weapon if you missed it during Season 2.
VCR-2 Base Stats
Before picking attachments, it helps to understand what the VCR-2 does well and where it falls short.
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| TTK (0-20m) | 200ms |
| Shots to Kill | 4 |
| Rate of Fire | 900 RPM |
| Magazine | 30 rounds |
| Reload Time | 2.434s |
| Muzzle Velocity | 563 m/s |
| Hipfire | 47 |
| Precision | 21 |
| Control | 43 |
| Mobility | 52 |
| Headshot Multiplier | x1.34 |
The VCR-2 deals 25 damage per shot within 20 meters, dropping to 20 damage between 20m and 75m, and 16.7 damage beyond that. At close to mid range it kills in four shots. Past 75 meters, you want to switch roles or reposition, because six shots at that distance is asking too much from an assault rifle.
The TR7 technically posts a faster TTK of 167ms within 20 meters, but it compensates with a chaotic recoil pattern that shifts up, left, then unpredictably right. The VCR-2 offers a much more consistent and controllable spray, especially when running magazines larger than 25 rounds. That controllability is what makes it the stronger pick for most players.
How to Unlock the VCR-2 in Battlefield 6
The VCR-2 first arrived in Season 2 as a battle pass weapon locked inside the Woodland Rangers tree. Players who missed the Season 2 pass can still unlock it through the Season 2 Catch-Up Hardware challenge.
To complete the challenge, you need to:
- Obtain the 9K38 Igla shoulder-mounted missile launcher
- Deal 3,000 damage to vehicles using shoulder-launched missiles
- Destroy or assist in destroying 5 aircraft using the 9K38 Igla
The vehicle damage objective is straightforward. Play Engineer class, pick up any rocket launcher, and hunt ground vehicles. You will finish this naturally by playing normally.
Taking down aircraft is harder. Enemy pilots can break Igla locks by popping flares or flying outside radar range. The key mechanic to know: after you fire an Igla missile, if it misses but stays in the air, you can immediately lock onto the same target again. The original missile will track the reacquired lock and still connect.
The best map to grind this challenge is Conquest on Railway to Golmud. That map puts a large number of air vehicles in play for both teams, which gives you more targets per round. Position yourself near your team’s AA tank and let it pressure enemy pilots into burning their flares. Once the flares are spent, follow up immediately with an Igla shot while the aircraft has no countermeasures available.
Progress tracking for this challenge was bugged at launch. Assists and kills on abandoned aircraft did not count. If the bug persists when you attempt this, only full aircraft kills with you holding the Igla will register.
Best VCR-2 Loadouts in Battlefield 6 Season 3
Recommended Loadout (100/100)
This is the all-around setup and the best starting point for most playstyles.
| Slot | Attachment | Level Required |
|---|---|---|
| Barrel | 20″ Marksman | Level 15 |
| Underbarrel | Folding Vertical | Level 1 |
| Ammunition | FMJ | – |
| Muzzle | Lightened Suppressor | Level 36 |
| Magazine | 40rnd Fast Mag | Level 40 |
| Scope | Mini Flex 1.00x | Level 1 |
The 20″ Marksman barrel pushes bullet velocity up significantly, improving hit consistency at range. FMJ ammunition is the default pick for the VCR-2 since Hollowpoint provides almost no TTK benefit without landing two headshots per engagement (more on that below). The Lightened Suppressor at Mastery 36 is widely considered the best muzzle option on the gun. If you have not reached that level yet, run the Standard or Long Suppressor as a placeholder.
Lowest Recoil Loadout (100/100)
Use this setup when you want maximum control during extended fire.
| Slot | Attachment | Level Required |
|---|---|---|
| Barrel | 20″ Marksman | Level 15 |
| Underbarrel | Classic Vertical | Level 34 |
| Ammunition | FMJ | – |
| Muzzle | Linear Comp | Level 3 |
| Magazine | 40rnd Magazine | Level 35 |
| Scope | Mini Flex 1.00x | Level 1 |
The Classic Vertical grip at Level 34 costs more attachment points than the Folding Vertical but delivers stronger recoil reduction. Combined with the Linear Comp muzzle, this setup gives you the flattest possible spray pattern. The tradeoff is a slight ADS speed penalty, which matters less at the ranges where the VCR-2 shines.
Fastest ADS Loadout (100/100)
This setup is built for aggressive entries, fast rotations, and point-blank fights.
| Slot | Attachment | Level Required |
|---|---|---|
| Barrel | 18″ US | Level 2 |
| Underbarrel | Low-Profile Stubby | Level 37 |
| Ammunition | FMJ | – |
| Muzzle | Single-Port Brake | Level 11 |
| Magazine | 40rnd Magazine | Level 35 |
| Scope | Mini Flex 1.00x | Level 1 |
The 18″ US barrel trades some bullet velocity for a faster handling profile. The Low-Profile Stubby at Level 37 keeps recoil in check while maintaining quick shouldering speed. This is the loadout to run when you are playing objective modes and need to clear doorways, staircases, and interior spaces quickly.
Hip Fire Loadout (95/100)
The VCR-2 already posts a Hipfire rating of 47, which is competitive for an assault rifle. This build pushes that further for close-quarters and run-and-gun play.
| Slot | Attachment | Level Required |
|---|---|---|
| Barrel | 16″ Factory | – |
| Ammunition | Polymer Case | Level 33 |
| Magazine | 40rnd Fast Mag | Level 40 |
| Right Accessory | Flashlight | Level 6 |
| Top Accessory | 50 MW Green Laser | Level 18 |
| Scope | Mini Flex 1.00x | Level 1 |
The Flashlight and laser combination tightens hip-fire spread. This setup drops the suppressor entirely, so you will appear on minimaps when firing. Use it in Gauntlet Mode or fast-paced indoor scenarios where silence matters less than mobility and close-range output.
Should You Use Hollowpoint Ammunition?
No. Hollowpoint is not worth running on the VCR-2.
For Hollowpoint to change your TTK at any range, you need to land a specific number of headshots every engagement:
| Range | Required Shots |
|---|---|
| Within 20m | 2 headshots + 1 bodyshot |
| 20m to 75m | 2 headshots + 2 bodyshots |
| Beyond 75m | 2 headshots + 3 bodyshots |
Given how fast the VCR-2 fires at 900 RPM and how its recoil rises during sustained fire, landing two consistent headshots per kill is not realistic in actual matches. Hollowpoint costs 15 to 20 attachment points and delivers almost no practical upside. Stick with FMJ across all loadouts.
Early Progression Tips
If you are still working through the unlock levels, prioritize in this order:
- Reach Level 3 for the Linear Comp muzzle to manage recoil immediately
- Push to Level 15 for the 20″ Marksman barrel to increase bullet velocity
- Unlock the Standard Suppressor early and replace it with the Lightened Suppressor at Mastery 36
- Grab the 40rnd Fast Mag at Level 40 for the best combination of ammo capacity and reload speed
- A grip providing at least 25 recoil control points (Angle Grip, Rib Stubby, Alloy Vertical) is worth equipping until you unlock the Classic Vertical or Low-Profile Stubby
The VCR-2 also handles the best of the carbines in Battlefield 6 in close-range scenarios, so if you want a secondary weapon category to pair with it at medium range, check out the best DMRs in Battlefield 6 for a complementary loadout option.
