Scorpions in PEAK may look like minor threats, but underestimate them, and you’ll find your health bar melting away from venom. Found exclusively in the Mesa biome, these tiny but toxic creatures can disrupt your climb if you’re not prepared. This guide breaks down everything you need to know—how to avoid getting stung, recover from poison, and even turn these creepy crawlers into a resource.

Where Scorpions Spawn
Scorpions are native to the Mesa biome and appear more frequently at night. Their slow movement may seem harmless at first, but their dark brown color and small size make them difficult to spot, especially in low-light conditions. You’ll often find them moving in small circles until a player approaches—at which point they lock on and advance with intent.
How Scorpion Attacks Work
Scorpions may be small, but their sting is dangerous. When one approaches, it charges its stinger and lunges forward, delivering poison damage that can chip away roughly 25% of your health bar.
The twist? You can pick them up. Press E to interact, but act fast—once in your hands, the scorpion’s stinger begins to glow, signaling an imminent strike.
How to Avoid Getting Stung
To avoid taking damage after picking one up:
- Pick up the scorpion with E.
- Hold E again to charge a throw.
- Release when the gauge is nearly halfway full.
Throwing it quickly ensures it’s gone before the sting lands. If you delay, expect to suffer a venomous retaliation.
What Happens If You Get Poisoned?
If you’re stung, use a Cure All or Antidote to recover. These consumables can be found inside luggage bags scattered throughout the Mesa and its mineshafts.
However, be cautious—some bags seen from a distance are actually mirages and vanish when approached. If you can’t find an antidote, don’t worry. The poison effect wears off naturally over time, so stay mobile and continue climbing.
Turning Scorpions Into Food
Scorpions aren’t just hazards—they can be cooked and eaten to restore hunger. There are two methods:
Method 1: Portable Stove
- Drop a portable stove on the ground.
- Pick up a scorpion and aim at the stove.
- Hold E to interact and cook it.
If you manage this before the scorpion stings, you’ll get a Well-Done Scorpion, which can be eaten to restore hunger or stored for later.
Method 2: Dynamite Cooking
Another method is to blow up scorpions using Dynamite, turning them into a Cooked Scorpion:
- Dynamite ignites on proximity, so plan ahead.
- Either:
- Throw the scorpion into already-primed dynamite, or
- Toss lit dynamite at the scorpion.
Once cooked, the scorpion becomes edible. However, it can’t be stored in your inventory—hold it or eat it on the go.
Patch Update Note
As of Patch 1.23.a (August 13, 2025), scorpions have been rebalanced. While full patch details remain limited, players may notice subtle changes in their behavior or poison potency.

- Scout for Antidotes before venturing too deep into the Mesa.
- If low on food, consider cooking a scorpion instead of avoiding it.
