The first major balancing update for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 has arrived, and it delivers a wide set of changes across multiplayer, Zombies, and weapon tuning. The patch focuses on tightening the early-game meta by easing aim-assist penalties, bringing SMGs back into the fight, and finally knocking down the overperforming M15 and several high-versatility assault rifles. It also introduces a noticeable Drone Pod nerf and quality-of-life updates across the board.

Aim Assist Adjustments – A Softer Penalty
Aim assist has been a major talking point since launch due to its harsher rotational penalties. Treyarch has now tuned the system closer to what controller players expect.
Key Change
- Minimum rotational aim-assist penalty reduced from 35% to 25%.
This means you now retain more aim assistance even when your right-stick tracking isn’t perfect. The system still rewards active tracking, but the experience feels less punishing overall.
Gunfights should feel more consistent, especially in close-quarters fights where aim assist previously dropped off too sharply.
Assault Rifle Nerfs – M15, AK-27, and More
Assault rifles dominated the early meta thanks to exceptional versatility across ranges. The update aims to bring them back in line and give SMGs more breathing room.
Global AR Change
- Received flinch increased from 0.15N to 0.18N.
AR users now lose stability faster when taking damage, giving faster weapons (like SMGs) a fairer chance.
Major AR Adjustments
M15 MOD 0
One of the strongest all-rounders has been toned down heavily:
- Slight reductions to maximum, medium, and minimum damage values.
- Movement penalties across sprint, crouch, and ADS movement speeds.
- Increased recoil and view kick.
- Longer sprint-to-fire and tac-sprint-to-fire times.
Effect: The M15 is still reliable but no longer overwhelms every engagement range.
AK-27
A similar treatment, with mobility nerfs and extended long-range drop-off.
- Medium-range and long-range damage reduced.
- Handling and mobility slowed.
- Added vertical recoil before stabilization.
Effect: The AK-27 retains its kill potential but demands better recoil control and positioning.
X9 Maverick, MXR-17, DS20 Mirage
These weapons receive lighter adjustments tied mostly to mobility and recoil. The Maverick also gets updated body multipliers to reduce effortless one-burst kills.
SMG Buffs – A much-needed mid-range boost
Players reported SMGs struggling outside of point-blank fights. Treyarch has responded with class-wide range buffs, grip tuning, and recoil improvements.
Global SMG Change
- Received flinch reduced from 0.17N to 0.12N.
SMGs maintain accuracy better under fire, helping them win head-to-head with ARs at close range.
What’s New for SMGs
Across the SMG roster:
- Mid-range damage ranges extended (varies per weapon).
- Recoil-reducing grips strengthened.
- Several barrels now offer stronger range bonuses.
- Some SMGs also get ADS speed and kick-consistency improvements.
Examples:- Ryden 45K gains better ADS speed and stronger attachment buffs.
- Razor 9mm and Carbon 57 see reduced recoil deviation.
- MPC-25 gets faster ADS and improved handling.
Effect: SMGs now feel much more competitive on hybrid maps, especially with the right loadouts.
Drone Pod Nerf – Reduced Damage and Shorter Duration
The Drone Pod was one of the most oppressive Field Upgrades at launch. To rein it in, Treyarch has applied heavy limitations:
- Charge time increased from 2.5 to 3 minutes.
- Drone duration reduced from 10 to 8 seconds.
- Damage reduced from 60 to 50.
Effect: It remains useful for map control but no longer deletes players as consistently.
Scorestreak Adjustments
A few streaks get notable tweaks:
Hand Cannon
- Akimbo Overlock ammo increased from 5 to 7 rounds per gun.
- Hip-fire spread significantly reduced.
- Extended Mag Overclock ammo lowered from 12 to 10.
LDBR
- Second Strike Overclock missile count increased from 9 to 13 per target.
Multiplayer Improvements
These updates enhance overall playability:
- Minimap view radius increased by an additional 10%.
- FFA spawn logic improved to reduce bad spawn chain scenarios.
- Camo challenges updated to include kills on enemies affected by tactical equipment or non-lethal Scorestreaks.
- Several bug fixes for medals, operator lists, and stability.
Zombies – Easier Boss Fights and Fewer Frustrations
The update makes the Ashes of the Damned experience smoother, especially for solo players.
Boss Fight Adjustments
- Reduced overall difficulty.
- Hoard Husk now regenerates after one minute and provides more health.
- Missiles are less effective and do not fire during Beam Attack charge.
- Beam Attack interruptions no longer reduce cooldown before Round 100.
- Ol’ Tessie receives reduced passenger damage and no longer has repair cooldown.
- Zursa will not spawn in solo before Round 100 and moves slower.
Other Fixes
- Exploit blocking.
- HUD refresh bugs fixed.
- Significant challenge requirement adjustments (e.g., Dead Wire Ammo kills increased from 5 to 300).
- Multiple stability updates.
Campaign & Endgame Updates
The Endgame mode is now automatically unlocked for all Black Ops 7 owners.
Loadout bugs where attachments vanished on mission start have also been resolved.
