Who Is Lohen?

Lohen serves as the Vice-Captain of the Knights of Favonius’s 5th Company, stationed at the Wavechaser Plain in Mondstadt. His fellow knights describe him as “the sharpest, most lethal arrow,” someone who charges headfirst into battle while his squadmates are still preparing to fire.

He belongs to the Hexerei archetype alongside Varka, Nicole, and Durin, forming the Mondstadt-based Hexerei core lineup. Interestingly, despite leading a ranged squad, Lohen rarely uses a bow. He was shown wielding the Favonius Lance in an in-game cutscene, and his view on tactics is simple: driving a spear through an enemy is faster and more accurate than drawing a bow.

Varka sums him up well in his voiced line: “He’s just into the fighting part, couldn’t care less about the glory. Well, at least when he’s fighting the enemy, it keeps him busy. Otherwise, he’ll be digging traps to ambush me out of boredom.”

You can currently meet and interact with Lohen as an NPC in the Dornman Port map area. His story quest, “Chapter: Lepus Miles,” is expected to launch alongside his banner.

Lohen Kit Breakdown

Elemental Skill: Unforeseen Strike

Lohen’s Elemental Skill is the cornerstone of his kit. Activating it puts him into Masterstroke Mode, which converts all Normal, Charged, and Plunging Attacks to Cryo DMG that cannot be overridden by other elemental infusions. Masterstroke Mode ends when Lohen leaves the field, and both resources reset to zero simultaneously.

His kit runs on a dual-resource system:

Resource 1: Joy Lohen generates Joy through his own Normal Attacks (+15 stacks per hit) and Charged Attacks (+18 stacks per hit), capped at 100 stacks. Once Joy fills up, his Elemental Skill transforms into a special version called “Etched Into Bone and Soul,” which consumes all Joy and all current Triumph to unleash a burst of Cryo AoE damage.

Resource 2: Triumph Teammates generate Triumph for Lohen whenever they deal damage while Masterstroke Mode is active. A single hit of 1000% or more of Lohen’s Base ATK grants +20 stacks; otherwise each hit adds +1 stack (capped at one trigger per 0.1 seconds per teammate). Triumph scales the final damage of “Etched Into Bone and Soul” directly, with a base cap of 100 stacks upgradeable at C1.

The core loop is straightforward: Lohen builds Joy through his Normal and Charged Attacks while relying on high-multiplier off-field damage dealers to rapidly fill Triumph. The more Triumph stacked before firing “Etched Into Bone and Soul,” the higher the damage.

Elemental Burst: Manifest Judgment

Lohen’s Burst delivers six consecutive hits of Cryo AoE DMG, consuming all current Triumph to amplify total damage. If activated while in Masterstroke Mode, the duration of Masterstroke Mode extends by 1.65 seconds, granting Lohen a longer empowered window.

Since both “Etched Into Bone and Soul” and the Burst compete for the same Triumph pool, players must decide each rotation which skill to prioritize for Triumph spending. This tension disappears at C4.

Passive Talents

Forbidden Admonition While in Masterstroke Mode, if a teammate lands a single hit of 4000% or more of Lohen’s Base ATK, he gains an additional +60 Triumph stacks. Pairing Lohen with Durin is the most efficient way to consistently trigger this bonus.

Masterpiece of Jest While in Masterstroke Mode, whenever a teammate triggers a Cryo-related reaction, that teammate and Lohen himself each gain a 15% ATK buff lasting 8 seconds. This passive rewards Freeze, Melt, and Superconduct team compositions.

Exuberant Arrival After using his Elemental Skill, Lohen gains the “Revelry” effect for 9 seconds, boosting his Skill level by +1. If every party member has all three talent levels at or above Lohen’s current Skill level, the duration extends by 6 additional seconds (triggers once every 18 seconds). This passive directly ties teammate talent investment to Lohen’s personal damage output.

Hexerei Synergy (Hexerei Coordination) When Lohen uses “Etched Into Bone and Soul” or his Burst while Triumph sits at 50% or more of the cap, Normal Attack and Charged Attack DMG increases by 40% for 6 seconds.

Talent Priority

TalentPriority
Elemental Skill (Unforeseen Strike)First Priority
Elemental Burst (Manifest Judgment)Second Priority
Normal Attack (Spear of Favonius)Last

His Elemental Skill drives the majority of his damage output and should always be maxed first. The Burst scales well with Triumph, so it earns a close second. Normal Attacks remain useful during Masterstroke Mode but take a lower priority in leveling.

Hexerei Passive: What It Means for Team Building

Lohen is a Hexerei character, meaning he unlocks a Hexerei: Secret Rite passive after you complete his Witch’s Homework quest. This passive only activates when at least two characters on the team have also completed their respective Witch’s Homework quests. Nicole and Durin are currently the most synergistic Hexerei partners, since they both increase Lohen’s damage ceiling while filling his Triumph through their own powerful off-field output.

Best Weapons for Lohen

Premium Weapons

RankWeaponWhy It Works
1stDisaster and Remorse (Signature)Base ATK 674 with 22.1% CRIT Rate secondary stat. After using the Elemental Skill, gains “Path of Conflict” for 17s: Normal and Charged ATK DMG +40%, Skill and Burst DMG +40%. Each buff extends on hit. For Hexerei characters, all ATK bonuses increase by an additional 75%, making this the clear best-in-slot weapon for Lohen by a wide margin.
2ndPrimordial Jade Winged-SpearCRIT Rate main stat helps reach balanced CRIT ratios. The passive stacks ATK% on hit (up to 7 stacks) alongside a flat DMG% increase at max stacks, all of which Lohen can maximize with his rapid Normal Attack chains.
3rdStaff of HomaCRIT DMG main stat frees up artifact CRIT Rate needs. ATK% buff based on max HP provides a solid floor even without dedicated HP stacking. One of the most versatile CRIT polearms for ATK-scaling DPS characters.
4thSkyward SpineEnergy Recharge main stat helps if Lohen’s Burst factors into the optimal rotation. Passive increases CRIT Rate and Normal Attack Speed, a meaningful combination for a Normal Attack-heavy character.
5thDeathmatchCRIT Rate main stat with an ATK% passive. At Refinement 5, performance can rival some 5-star options while remaining accessible through the Battle Pass.
6thSacrificer’s StaffCRIT Rate main stat. ATK and Energy Recharge buffs stack on Skill hits (up to 3 stacks). Best at Refinement 5 but difficult to acquire copies of due to its limited banner availability.

Free-to-Play Options

RankWeaponWhy It Works
Best F2PWhite TasselA 3-star polearm with a CRIT Rate sub-stat, which is genuinely rare at this rarity tier. The Normal Attack DMG% buff on its passive suits Lohen’s attack-heavy playstyle and makes it the best accessible option when no other weapon is available.
2nd F2PCrescent PikeA niche craftable polearm from Mondstadt. Physical DMG% main stat is not ideal since Lohen’s infused attacks deal Cryo DMG, but the passive generates extra hits that can add up in early and mid-game content.

Best Artifacts for Lohen

Recommended Sets

SetRatingNotes
A Day Carved From Rising Winds x4BestTailor-made for Hexerei characters, granting ATK% and CRIT Rate buffs. Active after completing Lohen’s Witch’s Homework quest. Functions as his universal set across all team compositions.
Blizzard Strayer x4SituationalGrants CRIT Rate when an enemy is affected by Cryo, with a larger bonus if the enemy is Frozen. Viable in Freeze teams specifically, but loses value outside that setup.
Marechaussee Hunter x4NicheNormal and Charged ATK DMG buff on the 2-piece, plus generous CRIT Rate stacking on the 4-piece when party HP fluctuates. Only works consistently when Furina and a healer are both on the team, which locks Lohen into that specific setup.

Target Stats at Full Build:

StatTarget
CRIT Rate80% or higher
CRIT DMG160% or higher
ATKAt least 2,000
Energy RechargeTBA pending final kit values

Since Lohen attacks frequently, sitting at 80% CRIT Rate with a higher CRIT DMG ratio is acceptable. Climbing toward 100% CRIT Rate remains viable if your artifact rolls support it. Prioritize offensive CRIT stats before Energy Recharge unless testing reveals Lohen needs his Burst every rotation for optimal DPS.

Best Teams for Lohen

Core Hexerei Melt Team (Recommended)

SlotCharacterRole
Main DPSLohenOn-field Cryo DPS. Builds Joy through Normal and Charged Attacks, triggers “Etched Into Bone and Soul” when full.
SupportNicoleHexerei Pyro support. Provides shields, teamwide ATK% buffs, and activates Melt to trigger “Masterpiece of Jest” for party-wide ATK bonuses.
Off-Field DPSDurinHighest Triumph generation efficiency. His single-hit damage in Denial of Darkness mode regularly exceeds 4000% of Lohen’s Base ATK, triggering the Forbidden Admonition passive for +60 Triumph per proc.
FlexMavuika or Varka or PruneMavuika adds Pyro Resonance and Hexerei archetype synergy. Varka provides additional Hexerei activation and grouping utility. Prune contributes additional off-field damage for Triumph stacking.

This is Lohen’s intended team. Nicole and Durin both activate Lohen’s Hexerei passive while covering the two most important roles: ATK buffing and Triumph generation. Nicole’s shield also allows Lohen to execute uninterrupted Normal Attack chains, which matters a great deal for a character whose Joy resource depends on consistent hitting.

Durin Melt Team Rotation:

  1. Activate all support abilities, starting with the longest durations first.
  2. Swap to Durin. Deploy his Skill, then use Normal Attack to activate Denial of Darkness mode.
  3. Switch to Nicole. Use Elemental Burst, then Skill.
  4. Swap to Lohen. Activate his Elemental Skill to enter Masterstroke Mode. Execute Normal and Charged Attacks. Use “Etched Into Bone and Soul” when Joy fills. End with his Burst.
  5. Repeat.

Freeze Team

SlotCharacterRole
Main DPSLohenOn-field Cryo DPS. Frozen enemies stay stationary, improving AoE hit consistency.
Hydro SupportFurina / Mona / KokomiApplies consistent Hydro to trigger Freeze. Furina additionally buffs team DMG via Fanfare stacks.
Off-Field DPSDurinContinues to serve as the primary Triumph generation engine regardless of team archetype.
FlexMona (for Hexerei passive) / EscoffierMona is the only Hexerei character that allows Lohen’s Freeze comp to access Escoffier’s maximum Cryo and Hydro RES shred. Escoffier herself contributes major RES shred and Cryo support.

To run the premium Freeze composition, Lohen needs both Escoffier and Furina to compensate for the absence of Nicole and the stronger Melt setup. Mona’s presence here is nearly mandatory to maintain both Hexerei passive activation and Escoffier’s maximum RES shred output.

Freeze Team Rotation:

  1. Use Furina’s Skill, then Burst (dash after Skill to cancel the animation).
  2. Swap to Escoffier. Deploy her Skill, then Burst.
  3. Switch to Mona. Use Skill, then Burst, followed by Normal Attack x4 to extend her Omen buff.
  4. Switch to Lohen. Activate Elemental Skill, execute Normal and Charged Attacks, fire “Etched Into Bone and Soul” when available, end with Burst.
  5. Repeat.

Burning-Melt Team

SlotCharacterRole
Main DPSLohenCryo application from Masterstroke Mode triggers Melt off the Burning Pyro aura.
SupportNicoleShield, teamwide ATK% buff, Hexerei passive activation.
Off-Field DPSDurinOff-field Triumph generation. Element does not interfere with Melt setup.
DendroEmilieActivates Burning, creating a consistent Pyro aura for Lohen to Melt into. Also reduces Burning self-damage through her passive.

Note that this composition shifts Lohen toward triggering more Reverse Melt (Cryo on Pyro), which carries a 1.5x damage multiplier rather than the 2x of Forward Melt. The tradeoff is a team setup where Lohen himself becomes the primary Melt trigger rather than Durin.

Burning-Melt Rotation:

  1. Start with Nicole. Use Elemental Burst, then Skill.
  2. Swap to Durin. Deploy Skill, then Normal Attack x1 to activate Denial of Darkness.
  3. Switch to Emilie. Use Skill or Burst to apply Burning.
  4. Use Durin’s Burst.
  5. Switch to Lohen. Activate Elemental Skill, execute Normal and Charged Attacks, use “Etched Into Bone and Soul” when available, end with Burst.
  6. Repeat.

F2P Team

SlotCharacter
Main DPSLohen
SupportBennett
Sub-DPSXiangling
FlexSucrose

Bennett and Xiangling form a reliable Melt backbone even in budget situations. Sucrose provides Elemental Mastery to amplify Melt damage while also activating Lohen’s Hexerei passive, making this the most accessible team for players without Hexerei characters built.

Constellation Overview

ConstellationEffectValue
C0Full kit as described. Masterstroke Mode, Joy + Triumph dual-resource system, and “Etched Into Bone and Soul” are all present and functional at base.Full Kit
C1Triumph cap increased to 250%. Triumph gained from teammates dealing damage during Masterstroke Mode also increases to 250%. Directly raises the damage ceiling of “Etched Into Bone and Soul.”High
C2Within 4 seconds of using “Etched Into Bone and Soul” or Burst during Masterstroke Mode, gain “Pristine Blade”: the next Normal or Charged Attack deals 300% ATK Cryo AoE DMG and grants the entire party +125 Elemental Mastery for 8 seconds. Triggers at most once every 4 seconds. Major power spike for reaction-focused teams.Core
C4When the Burst activates during Masterstroke Mode, Triumph fills to the cap automatically. Entering Masterstroke Mode with less than full Energy restores 15 Energy; if Energy was full, 15 Energy restores after using the Burst. Completely eliminates the Triumph competition between “Etched Into Bone and Soul” and the Burst.Strong
C6While in Masterstroke Mode, “Etched Into Bone and Soul” and the Burst no longer consume Triumph. Joy refills immediately. The next “Etched Into Bone and Soul” use extends Masterstroke Mode by 1.25 seconds (triggers once every 7 seconds). All DMG from these skills gains +80% CRIT DMG. Removes all output restrictions.Whale Tier

C0 is fully functional. C2 is the single best constellation investment: the party-wide +125 Elemental Mastery buff significantly amplifies Freeze and Melt teams, and the 300% ATK Cryo hit adds meaningful personal DPS on top of it. C4 solves the core mechanic tension for players who want smoother rotations. C6 removes every ceiling.

Should You Pull for Lohen?

Lohen is a high-ceiling, high-synergy Cryo main DPS. Here is an objective breakdown before you spend:

Reasons to Pull:

  • He is the only Cryo character in the Hexerei archetype, introducing unique team-building possibilities for Freeze, Melt, and Superconduct compositions.
  • His damage ceiling scales directly with your roster investment. If you already have Varka, Nicole, or Durin built, Lohen immediately slots into one of the strongest compositions in the game.
  • Multiple leak sources suggest he may enter the Standard Wish pool after his limited run, similar to Tighnari and Dehya. Pulling Nicole in Phase 1 and treating Lohen as a potential future Standard banner acquisition is a viable low-risk strategy.

Reasons to Save:

  • Without built Hexerei supports, Triumph accumulation efficiency drops significantly and his damage output falls short of his ceiling.
  • Wriothesley and Ganyu both cover the Cryo main DPS role well if you already have them. Lohen does not obsolete either character.
  • Version 6.7 (Sandrone) and Version 7.0 (Snezhnaya) are both major releases. Plan your Primogem budget accordingly.

Pull Budget:

ScenarioPulls RequiredPrimogems Needed
Win 50/50Up to 90 pulls~14,400
Lose 50/50 (guaranteed)Up to 180 pulls~28,800
Signature Weapon (additional)~60 to 80 pulls~9,600 to 12,800

Version 6.6 New Artifact Sets

According to Beta leak data, two new artifact sets arrive in Version 6.6. One set buffs teammates’ Elemental DMG Bonus after the equipped Hexerei character uses their Elemental Skill, designed specifically for Lohen and Hexerei team compositions. The second set focuses on Superconduct DMG and CRIT Rate bonuses, also targeting Cryo DPS characters.

Wait until Version 6.6 launches before farming either of these. Farming before the update wastes resin on sets you cannot obtain yet. Play Now!
